A Rising Star Iris King
“When a melody pops in my head, I start thinking about all the little details to make it a song like the story, harmonies, instruments, and lyrics, which are my favorite part”

Iris King, a rising 5th grader at H.W. Mountz has been singing for as long as she can remember. “I think I just started singing and never stopped!” The Joy of Expression For Iris, the allure of music lies in its ability to convey emotions. “I have fun when I sing,” she explains, “I like how every song has a different emotion in it.” It is this creativity that continues to push Iris in finding ways to expand her craft. Crafting her Unique Sound What sets Iris apart is her songwriting, crafting her own melodies and lyrics. “I’ve been writing my own songs since I was four years old,” she shares proudly. At 7, Iris released her first album, “This Farm.” The album includes seven songs and brings listeners on a journey with Virginia, a budding artist herself who leaves her farm to become famous in NYC, only to realize it is more fun on her farm. Iris finds inspiration from her favorite storyteller, Taylor Swift. “She’s the person who made me think about writing songs. I admire her for working so hard to make more music for her fans.” Iris applies that work ethic to her own goals. “When a melody pops in my head, I start thinking about all the little details to make it a song like the story, harmonies, instruments, and lyrics, which are my favorite part,” Iris explains. Milestones & Gratitude One of Iris’ proudest moments was the realization she could find her music on iTunes and Spotify. There is no greater feeling than knowing you can share your music with others. As Iris reflects on her journey, she credits her music teacher, Brandon Flynn, along with her supportive family and friends, for helping her achieve this milestone. Beyond Singing Outside her musical endeavors, Iris is drawn to the theater. As an active student in the Spring Lake Theatre and Dance Academy, Iris loves playing a role in their performances. “The Community House is where I feel the happiest. I am grateful to be a member, because it is like a family there,” Iris shares. Iris also plays guitar, enjoys surfing, and loves to hang out with friends and family at the beach.
Looking Ahead This July Iris is releasing her second album, Happy. “This album is about a lot of different feelings and how sometimes those are hard to understand or hard to explain. I wanted to have my songs relate to some people because they may be going through different feelings as they listen.” In the future, Irish hopes to release more albums and plans to write more songs with her on guitar. With a remarkable work ethic and passion, it is clear Iris will continue to leave an indelible mark on the world of music.
