Just Like A Woman ‘Nobody feels any pain’, the voice begins, but there is plenty of pain to go around in this evocation of a world in which the woman in question does her best to camouflage the ‘little girl’ inside with a fog of amphetamines, ribbons, bows and pearls. The lyrics accomplish an ingenious twist in the final stanza, when the voice changes from third person (‘her’ ribbons and bows) and addresses the former lover directly. ‘When we meet again’, the speaker says, ‘Introduced as friends/Please don’t let on that you knew me when/I was hungry and it was your world’. Tender, hear tbreaking and unsparing.
