Depuis l’enfance, elle veut être commissaire-priseur et si elle fait hypokhâgne et khâgne, c’est pour sa culture personnelle. Elle étudie aussi, bien sûr, le droit et l’histoire de l’art, enchaîne les stages chez les antiquaires et dans les maisons de vente. Chez Sotheby’s, elle fait ses premières armes au département des inventaires, se familiarise avec les objets et le travail des experts. Et quand Philippe Delalande, spécialiste en art d’Asie, lui propose de le rejoindre, elle n’hésite pas. Passionnée par son sujet, elle s’envole pour Hong Kong, visite les musées les plus importants en la matière. « La maison offrait une formidable
formation. » L’expérience dure huit ans avant que Camille de Foresta ne suive celui qui lui a permis ce formidable début de carrière, Guillaume Cerutti, nommé PDG Christie’s monde. « Je lui dois beaucoup, j’ai connu grâce à lui des années formidables. » Nous sommes en 2016 et elle commence par un coup d’éclat : la vente d’art d’Asie, qui a lieu en décembre, rapporte 26 millions, avec un bouddha de la dynastie Liao adjugé 13,5 millions. Traquer les objets la passionne. Le marché chinois est en plein essor et Camille surfe sur cet engouement. Auctioneer and specialist in Asian art at Christie’s, this young woman is also fond of 18 th century furniture and doesn’t hide her passion for haute couture. By Éric Jansen It all went very quickly for Camille de Foresta. “I made my first sale at 24”. She never doubted what she aspired to do… since she was a child, she had always wanted to be an auctioneer. As an undergraduate, although she followed the hypokhâgne khâgne program, it was more for her personal culture than anything else. She also studied law and the history of art, did internships with antique dealers and auction houses, and cut her teeth in Sotheby’s inventory department, familiarizing herself with objects and the work of experts. And when Asian art specialist Philippe Delalande offered her the chance to join him, she didn’t hesitate a second. Passionate about her subject, she flew to Hong Kong and visited the major museums in the field. “It was tremendous training.” The experience lasted eight years before Camille de Foresta followed the man who offered her this formidable start to her career, Guillaume Cerutti, appointed CEO of Christie’s World. “I owe him a lot, and thanks to him I have had some truly great years.” This was back in 2016, and Camille got off to a truly flying start with a sale of Asian art in December which brought in 26 million, with a Buddha from the Liao dynasty sold for 13.5 million. Tracking objects fascinated her, the Chinese market was booming and Camille was on a roll. At the same time, she set up a sale of haute couture... “I started at Sotheby’s with Didier Ludot’s collection, going on to Catherine Deneuve’s Yves Saint Laurent wardrobe, and then ballet dancer Zizi Jeanmaire’s collection. I occasionally added extraordinary clothes to classic sales, side by side with a painting or a piece of furniture.” A winning formula which led to the Saint Laurent Tournesols jacket selling for 382,000 euro in 2019. A record! Recently, Camille was able to satisfy her two passions with the V.W.S. sale. The client was not only letting go her Chinese jade but also her dresses! “Not forgetting 18th century French furniture for which I also have a passion… Basically, this job is thrilling because it requires an all-round culture, and I love its diversity.
