Après avoir inauguré à Londres The Audley, un immeuble de briques qui abrite un pub et un restaurant décorés d’œuvres d’art, Luis Laplace a la lourde tâche de transformer un hôtel particulier de 800 mètres carrés, rue François I er , en une vaste galerie. Une vitrine très exposée pour le plus discret des décorateurs. •

His participation in the AD Interiors show in 2014 revealed his particular sensitivity to objects with a soul, a past. He named his stand L’Antichambre de Rubirosa. “I love digging things out. I am an architect, but my approach is that of an interior designer.” An ambivalence that sets him apart, an easy-going mixture of modernity and flea market. A stance that attracts collectors not obsessed with the white cube and Prouvé furniture, as in this Parisian apartment where works of art rub shoulders with gilded woodwork, Regency chairs and a baroque mirror. Antique furniture is not however the be-all and end-all for Luis Laplace. Like many decorators today, he designs the things he needs, for example the bespoke table lamp that was missing from his desk as he pores over his work.
Another particularity is the bold splash of colour in practically all his projects, with a predilection for blue, green and orange. Over the years, his reputation has crossed borders from Zurich to Mexico City, via Ibiza, New York and Costa Careyes. Not forgetting Paris, where the Hauser & Wirth duo have just called on him again. After the restoration of The Audley, a brick- built pub and restaurant in London decorated with works of art, Luis Laplace now has the daunting task of transforming an 800 sqm private mansion in the capital’s rue François I er into an immense gallery. A remarkable shop window for a particularly discreet designer. •
