But that’s not all...

Whilst the region of Messinia has been long-renowned for its stunning natural beauty, it wasn’t until 2010 when, following the vision of Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos, the area now known as Costa Navarino begun to welcome golfing tourists to its coastline. A much-lauded golf course was joined by incredible spa facilities and world-class hotels, immediately bringing it to the attention of the global golfing community. It was no surprise then, that when additional golf courses were added in the years that followed, alongside further 5* accommodation options, magnificent restaurants, and unbeatable conferencing facilities, Costa Navarino was truly elevated into a class all of its own. With a stunning climate throughout the year, Messinia can become extremely warm in the summer months, ideal for those looking to spend time by the pool or on the region’s stunning beaches. However, with temperatures often staying above 20°c through Spring and Autumn, Costa Navarino

is the perfect way to start or end the golf season. Join us as we explore everything this incredible destination has to offer.

The Dunes & The Bay Course

Designed by former Ryder Cup Captain and multiple-Masters champion, Bernhard Langer, The Dunes Course was the first signature course of its kind in Greece. Winding along the coastline, and offering spectacular sea-viewsthroughout, The Dunes Course still tops the Greek course rankings, and has become a firm-favourite of Golfbreaks customers over the last decade. The layout is managed by the Troon group, and benefits from world-class conditioning throughout the year, with slick and undulating greens to keep the golfer on their toes.

A short drive down the road you’ll find The Bay course, the second in the area, which also follows The Dunes Course in the national course rankings, coming in at #2 in Greece. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, The Bay Course benefits hugely from its waterfront setting, creating one of the most beautiful routings in the Golfbreaks portfolio. Changes in elevation allow the golfer to make the most of the surrounding vistas, and we’d recommend sticking around to watch the sunset from the terrace of The Bay clubhouse for a stunning end to your day.

Taken as a pair, The Dunes Course and The Bay Course have provided golfers with an unbelievably strong offering over the last decade – the #1 and #2 ranked courses in the country, no less! Our golfers are generally equally split on their favourite, meaning that whichever order you choose to play them, you’ll have an equally excellent round to look forward to. However, as you’re about to find out, The Dunes Course and the Bay Course have recently gained a little company with some serious pedigree …

The Hills Course & The International Olympic Academy Golf Course

The 36-hole development at Navarino Hills marks a new era for the region, with The Hills Course and The International Olympic Academy Golf Course complementing the original Dunes and Bay layouts. Both of the new courses have been designed by the legendary Jose Maria Olazabal, with The Hills Course carved into the environment to provide a more natural and rural feel, when compared with International Olympic Academy Golf Course more polished presentation. The addition of these two courses truly transform Costa Navarino from a resort to a fully-fledged golfing destination, with golfers able to spend days on end exploring these spectacular designs. Whether you’re looking for the immediate ‘wow’ factor which hits you throughout a round on Olympic Academy Golf Course, or to explore the olive groves and

ancient rock walls which line The Hills Course, there’s truly something for everybody here. Plus, with the modern design of both offering a selection of tee boxes, immaculate conditioning, and pure putting surfaces, every golfer that tees it up at Costa Navarino’s latest offerings will leave thoroughly impressed.

Those looking to keep their game sharp are also in luck as Costa Navarino is home to an extensive Golf Academy, designed to enable players of all abilities to maximise their potential. The academy here has been responsible for helping to create some of Greece’s top amateur players, and the staff are always on-site offering lessons to visiting golfers too. Additionally, larger groups are able to organise a clinic with the local pros, ideal for groups of higher handicap golfers who may be on their first golf trip abroad. There are practice greens, chipping areas, driving ranges and practice bunkers to ensure that all parts of your game are covered, giving you no excuse to not leave Costa Navarino with your game in better shape than when you arrived! Immerse yourself in golf Academy & Clubhouse

14

As you’d expect, the wider golfing facilities at Costa Navarino are exceptional. The Dunes Course, The Bay Course and The Hills Course all have their own modern and immaculately-finished clubhouse, meaning your first post-round drink is never more than a few steps from the 18th green. Food is available at each for those looking to grab a bite before or after their round too, giving you the perfect excuse to spend the full day at the course. We love kicking back on the terraces after a round here, excitedly running back through our favourite holes on each of the courses!

Whether you’re looking to try a first-class steak at Flame, the freshest fish at Armyra By Papaioannou or Barbouni, or Italian-themed Da Luigi – you’ll find it all here. In addition to the above, some of our favourites include Kooc Taverna Secrets, Perovino, Souvlakerie, which all offer an authentic Greek culinary experience. However, the restaurants here also take inspiration from around the world, with the Japanese-inspired Onuki and Middle-

Eastern Nargile all truly excellent too. There’s also plenty of options for a quick snack, with Division 16 the ideal meeting space for teens, young adults and all those who feel young. Swim up and enjoy a cocktail from the cooling waters, or hop out and enjoy a larger meal, with a mix of food available throughout the day. The Romanos Pool Bar caters to the attached hotel, and as such the majority of our travellers tend to spend more time at both the Westin and Lagoon bars which act as the ideal base for larger groups. Look out for ‘Happy Hour’ options and get involved with the laid-back music and vibes that flow over these poolside hotspots. A choice of pools, great food, refreshing drinks, chilled music, perfect weather – where else would you rather be following a morning on the golf course!

Dedication to the environment Sustainability

You can’t help but notice how well Costa Navarino blends into its environment, and the team have had an absolute dedication to sustainability since its inception. On the course, the layouts are watered from two reservoirs, purpose built on-site to serve the surrounding area. The grasses used on the courses themselves require 30% less watering than equivalent turf used elsewhere on the continent, again, helping to manage the site’s environmental impact. This preservation of the environment extends away from the golf courses too, with the region being home to a plethora of unique creatures, including

Loggerhead Sea Turtles, and Europe’s only population of African Chameleons. Take some time on your visit to wander through some of the regions spectacular reserves, meticulously maintained by the Messinians. Despite the increased development at Costa Navarino, the team have been keen to ensure that no more than 10% of the available land here is covered by habitable developments, allowing plenty of space for visitors to continue to explore this special site which has remained almost untouched for more than a millennium.

38

39

With so much to do on-site at Costa Navarino’s resorts, you’d be forgiven for not setting foot off the property. However, an exploration of the surrounding area is a must. There’s centuries of history to marvel at, from ancient tombs to mythical temples, and for those looking for something slightly more current, there’s a collection of brilliant boutiques to peruse if you’re looking to treat somebody special (or yourself!). We’d recommend taking a trip down to Navarino Bay, one of the largest natural harbours in the world, and site of the last naval battle in the world to be fought entirely with sailing ships in 1827. Or, if you’ve got an entirely free day, we’d recommend taking a trip up to Ancient Olympia, a UNESCO world heritage site, and the cradle of the Olympic Games, situated around 90 minutes north of Navarino. Closer to the hotels, for those without quite as much free time in their trip, you’ll also find some incredible vaulted tombs to explore dotted around the coastline, with some of these dating back more than 3,000 years! Our final suggestion would be to simply head out on foot for a while and take in this spectacular slice of tranquillity. Meander through the olive groves, dip your toes in the sea, or take a jog along the beach, we guarantee that whatever you choose to do with your time away from the course, you’ll do it with a smile on your face.
