A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

This week we have had the opportunity for several trips. A small group of students went to the Guildhall Livery Careers Fair which was a wonderful opportunity to speak to experts in their field and explore careers options. On Wednesday the year group got the opportunity to visit a variety of our cities greatest attractions and spend quality time with other members of the year group. Trips went to the London eye and river cruise, London dungeons, London zoo and the Natural History Museum. Good fun was had by all. A massive well done to the U15 cricket team who travelled to Essex to represent Middlesex in the Regional Finals. Out of the first 3 games they won 2 and lost 1 so it went down to the final match to decide if they would finish 2nd or 3rd. It was an extremely close game with Waldegrave setting a total of 93 runs for the opposition to chase, in the end the school from Chelmsford won with only 2 balls of the game remaining. There were excellent performances from Amelia G and Aditi S with the bat and great bowling contributions from Anesu, Elodie W, Connie, Aditi A, Emilia and Heidi. Well done to all! This weekend we will see our final DofE groups complete their assessed expeditions, having learnt map reading skills and developed teamwork. I am very proud of them all. As we go into our final week of Year 9 we look forward to the great changes that will be upon us in Year 10. Students will be mixed together out of their form groups and into their option choices and will have the opportunity to mingle with new students.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Killing God by Kevin Brooks Age recommendation 14+

The book features Dawn Bundy, a fifteen year old girl whose father claims to have found God, and leaves to continue his new, alternative lifestyle. The reader is led on an adventure with Dawn, which involves the struggles of friends and classmates. Kevin Brooks somehow manages to convey how young girls may feel about their bodies - specifically body dysmorphia - and describes their discomfort in their own skin. This book - to me - is very important. Killing God highlights many modern day problems for young people. It educates people and serves as a warning. ~ Recommended by Imogen C-A, Year 9 student
