Samaa Issa is an Omani poet and writer with a keen interest in cinema, through which he has presented numerous critical writings on several international filmmakers such as Shadi Abdel Salam, Ousmane Sembène, Abbas Kiarostami, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Satyajit Ray, and others. He has written cinematic scripts that have been directed by Hatim Al Tai in "The Last Rose," Abdullah Al Batashi in "Western Girl," Jassim Al Batashi in "The Disaster and the Flower," and Khaled Al Kalbani in "Desert Angels," among others. He has served as a judge in several local and Gulf film festivals, including as the head of the judging panel at the joint Indian-Omani Film Festival, head of the judging panel at the Omani Film Forum, a member of the judging panel at the University of Nizwa Film Forum, and a member of the judging panel at the Films from Saudi Arabia Festival, among others. He is also the founder and supervisor of the Cinema Forum at the Cultural Club in Muscat.
