VISION 2028

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

The University of East London is a careers-first university. We prepare our students for the jobs of the future and have been doing this proudly for 124 years. Our story started in 1898. We've survived wars, celebrated mo- mentous sporting events and fought against society's biggest sus- tainability issues. Now in the digital age, the world of work is rapid- ly changing, and we're adapting to ensure our graduates have the skills and resilience to succeed in their careers and make a positive impact on society and the planet. THE CAREERS-LED UNIVERSITY We're changing the face of education to match the ongoing funda- mental shift in working cultures. We have collaborated with industry to re-develop, re-design and validate our course portfolio, so the knowledge our students gain reflects the changing needs of indus- try and prepares our learners for sustainable careers of the future.

OUR CAMPUSES

Our historic Stratford campus is located in one of the best-connected areas of London: close to Stratford's thriving town centre, as well as the Queen Eliz- abeth Olympic Park which hosted the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Stratford campus is home to the School of Education and Communities, and Hospital and Primary Care Training Hub which houses Nursing, Physio- therapy, Podiatry and Occupational Therapy. Stratford's facilities include a new state-of-the-art library and learning centre, upgraded laboratories and computing services as well as a campus restaurant, bookshop and Students' Union cafe-bar. Westfield Stratford City - Europe's largest indoor shopping mall - is just one of Stratford's attractions, alongside many other shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. There are two multiscreen cinemas, a theatre, an arts centre and much more.

DOCKLANDS CAMPUS Our waterfront campus in the historic Royal Docks provides a modern, well-equipped learning environment, with modern lec- ture theatres and seminar rooms, a 24/7 library and learning cen- tre, and a multimedia production centre - complete with audio and visual labs and studios. We are one of the few London universities to have a self-contained campus - jump off the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and you're only steps away from our waterfront campus. There's also easy access to the Elizabeth Line, meaning you can be in Tottenham Court Road in 21 minutes! Our Docklands Campus Student Village is close to everything the local area has to offer and houses many of our students. We have a 24/7 security team on-campus and you can travel to and from our other campuses using our free bus ser- vice. Features include: our 24/7 Docklands library, our £21m Sports- Dock centre, Knowledge Dock, flexible learning spaces, cam- pus shops, the Children's Garden Nursery, a community garden, cafés, eateries, a late bar, plus Student Union facilities, including a student lounge.

UNIVERSITY SQUARE STRATFORD (USS) CAMPUS

University Square Stratford is one of London's most modern and well-equipped campuses. It is home to our institute of Performing Arts and we teach business, law and criminology here too. Our Le- gal Advice Centre gives students the opportunity to give back to the community by offering free advice to those unable to pay for it. We have invested £33 million in facilities including a student cen- tre and help desk, specialist dance and performance art spaces, a Harvard lecture theatre with live lecture capture technology and a

simulated courtroom for mooting experience. The campus is close to new Stratford devel- opments such as Westfield Stratford City, and next door to the Theatre Royal and Picture- house cinema.

Stratford

the University as careers first. Proposals are current- ly being prepared for planning submission.

Arthur Edwards Building Proposals are currently in development to optimise the ground floor of this building for student facilities (including Student Union social space and self-ser- vice catering). This will enhance support for the ex- isting University community, and subject to planning approval, place the Arthur Edwards building at the heart of the new student village. Stratford Redevelopment Our proposal and planning application to create a new student village with additional student accom- modation (650 rooms) is currently undergoing pub- lic consultation, and our plans have been made avail- able on a public-facing website. The Dome This historic monument and Grade Two listed build- ing will receive its phase two final touches, with up- grades to glasswork, heating, lighting, and AV equip- ment (subject to planning and heritage approvals). Hospital and Primary Care Training Hub (H&PCTH) The next phase in the development of the H&PCT expands and enhances this facility and optimises spaces for practice-based learning, research infra- structure and lab developments - further positioning

Reconfiguration of USS The USS main entrance (atrium) is planned to be relocated to face the main road, increasing visibility and opening the building up to the local communi- ty through a glazed building front that showcases gallery areas and connects the ground floor to the garden. Flexible, activity-based workspaces (Your Space, Your Place) will be implemented including research infrastructure to maximise campus space and encourage an inclusive culture where staff and students connect and collaborate. Stratford Circus We’re at the beginning of an exciting journey in part- nership with the Stratford Youth Zone, as we take over Stratford Circus (to be renamed) from 1 Octo- ber 2023, following confirmation that we were suc- cessful in our bid to partner with Newham Council to provide a cutting edge cultural and creative pro- gramme for young people. Carbon Net-Zero Across all sites, a rolling programme of lighting, ener- gy and room refurbishments, plus new Electric Vehi- cle (EV) Charging, will continue to reduce our emis- sions and support our journey to Carbon Net-Zero by 2030.

Connected Campus is the UEL’s multimillion-pound investment programme to improve its three cam- puses by creating more pioneering, vibrant and welcoming spaces for people to study, work and live.

The programme launched in April 2021, and since then, we’ve created outdoor focal points (Cam- pus Hearts) at all campuses; showcased our enhanced visual identity with clear signage; devel- oped new places; and introduced new learning and teaching spaces to pioneer future careers in a changing world. Watch our first Connected Campus video update to learn more about what was achieved in the first years of the programme.

2023 SUMMER WORKS

ready for the start of the new academic year, and we’ll be upgrading the East Building Street to create a vibrant ‘marketplace’, fit to host an array of student activities, and built with sustainable materials that reflect the natural world and our ongoing commitment to the environment. The programme will continue to enhance and create new learning spaces that foster connection and collaboration, along with new campus activity trails that provide our community with new ways to explore campus grounds, unplug and escape screen time. Activity Trails Three new activity trails are being developed to provide new ways to explore campus grounds on foot and encourage students and our university community to exercise and escape screen time. Visible from the moment you arrive, and acces- sible from University Square and the riverside, three routes will be created, namely, a Discovery, Sports and Wellbeing Trail. AVA Building Continuing the recent developments in the AVA building, construction has commenced on a new entrance to include a large glazed shop window that will (quite literally) shine a light on the gallery area and students’ works. Expected completion is September 2023.

Docklands As London continues to expand east, and the Royal Docks becomes the new home for sustain- able and forward-thinking businesses, our ambi- tion is that the Royal Docks Centre for Sustaina- bility (RDCS) will be at the heart of this emerging ecosystem. The RDCS will become a regional hatchery for sustainable innovation and enter- prise, supporting new and existing businesses with networking and partnership opportunities, and a talent pool of skilled workers, researchers, and specialists that work together under one roof to deliver positive green growth for the local area and economy. Construction has commenced in the new facility, to be completed in October 2023, equipping us with a range of new capabilities, including energy efficiency and clean-tech research infrastruc- ture, rapid prototyping, state-of-the-art testing equipment, electronic and mechanical compo- nent assembly, and materials analysis. New flex- ible teaching spaces will also be made available, along with space to socialise in a new ground floor café. East Building – The Street, Royal Docks Campus Teaching and learning spaces will be refurbished
