56. 1950 Hages Dairy Kenny Washington – SGC AUTHENTIC

UCLA multisport legend Kenny Washington made a brief transition from pro football to baseball that ended with a handful of games at third base for the Pacific Coast League’s L.A. Angels. This short stay makes his 1950 Hage’s Dairy card one of very few ways to see him in a baseball uniform. George Halas first attempted to sign Washington to a contract with Chicago, which would have integrated the 1940s NFL. When that effort failed, Kenny played in other pro pigskin leagues until postwar integration, led by his college teammate Jackie Robinson, took hold across major American sports. To make a tough collecting task almost impossible, the SGC population report shows a single known example for Kenny and this is it. SGC’s AUTH grade follows from those eccentric borders and presents as a fine overall image with collector-grade corners and surface issues. Whatever the actual condition, its front and back make it an appealing find for many different collections, from integration pioneers to fans of UCLA’s dominant football history.

58. 1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays (HOF) – PSA VG-EX 4

This Eddie Mathews rookie card, part of the 1952 Topps high series, remains a condition-sensitive star thanks to its position as the final card in its set. While this example avoided a dreaded “rubber banding” along its edges, it does exhibit typical wear for something well-loved during that era. This card’s centering sits a touch to the west and corners show balanced wear all around. PSA’s 1.5 grade reflects light surface wear on each side and an otherwise satisfying look at the young Hall of Fame third baseman, whose offensive

This strong second-year card of Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Mays, a key player from its semi- high series, reminds that he only recently received hobby respect commensurate with his status as among the very best to ever play baseball. This serious-faced portrait illustrates an intensity that made him a superstar, which Topps accentuated by contrasting him against a tinted clubhouse wall. PSA’s 4 score shows near-perfect centering on each side and

peripheral wear typical of a card that was handled with respect. Light surface marks and edge toning merit its technical grade without detracting from his superlative play and overall appeal.
