PADDLE PEARLAND – LEVEL 1 KAYAKING This sunset edition of Paddle Pearland is the perfect way to learn about the city's native environment and take in some awesome views by kayak! Participants will go through a quick Kayaking 101 tutorial to make sure everyone is comfortable with the basics of paddling before hitting the water. During the program, participants will get a close look at one of our bird rookeries, learn about the vital aquatic habitats throughout the Pearland area and enjoy a relaxing paddle on the pond. Kayaks, paddles and PFDs will be provided. An adult must participate with anyone under the age of 18. Fri., April 19 / 5:30 – 7 p.m. $35 resident / $42 non-resident 10+ years DFNC PADDLE PEARLAND – LEVEL 2 KAYAKING Are you ready to take kayaking to the next level? Try our Paddle Pearland – Level 2 Kayaking! In this program, we will travel to Galveston Island for a three-hour paddle through the bay-side salt marshes. Participants will get a chance to put their paddling skills to the test in a more dynamic environment, with some mild wave action and an ocean breeze. They will also cover a longer distance than in the Level 1 program. The picturesque habitat provides ample opportunity to see wildlife, both on land and in the water. Kayaks, PFDs and paddles will be provided. This program will have single and tandem kayak options. Participants may choose to ride with Parks & Recreation to the island or drive themselves. An adult must participate with anyone under the age of 18, and children under 16 must sign up for a tandem kayak with their adult. CAMPING EXPERIENCE Nothing beats a night under the stars! Our Camping Experience is the perfect first overnight adventure for those looking to get into camping. Set in one of our parks, this program gives you an opportunity to “rough it” without losing all your creature comforts. Our campsite will be in a semi- lit environment with quick access to cars, running water and bathrooms. It’s a great way to learn which equipment and supplies are must-haves, the best way to set up your campsite, how to Leave No Trace, and how to ensure that everyone is ready to take camping out into the wilderness! Fun outdoor activities and camping staple s’mores will also be included. Begins F ri., March 29, at 5:30 p.m. and ends Sat., March 30, at 8:30 a.m. $20 5+ years Independence Park DFNC NATURE NOVELTIES SWAP SHOP Find something neat on the street? Want to talk about your cool rock? On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, children and adults can bring in their nature finds to swap for other curiosities or nature center novelties. Some nature finds may not be accepted, so please read the full Swap Shop rules on our website at pearlandtx.gov/dfnc .
