Welcome to Volume Three of the Real World Principles Sale! We would first like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to view our offering. This is the first bull sale and we are very excited to bring you this offering. An offering that we feel exemplifies our genetic direction along with giving you a glance into the future of some of the core sires that will be behind the female base in each of our respective programs going forward. These cattle are tried and true, with some of the breeds foundation cows close up in the pedigree. This group of bulls is stacked with quality that can move your operation forward. These bulls have never been offered for sale prior, and represent the very best from our programs. These bulls are selected out of our best proven females to make sure you are getting a bull that embodies what we stand for. We live in the real world and run our cows harder than most. A cow to stay in our operations must have good udder quality, structure, feet, disposition, fertility, longevity, and be a certain biological type. The biological type is deep, thick, moderate females, with a lot of capacity to convert low quality forage efficiently. Those cattle never go out of style and are extremely useful in a wide range of breeding scenarios. We started in the commercial sector and eventually it became harder to find angus bulls that fit our vision. It was the kickstart to each of our own Angus journeys, which led to our paths crossing and friendship born through following similar programs. We each embarked on our individual quests and selected registered females that fit our vision. Along with diligently selecting bulls that we felt like were tried and true to use AI or as a herd bull. It was required that they be proven or stacked with tried-and-true genetics on both sides. The magnitude of sire selection decisions cannot be understated. The right bull can propel your program ahead 10 years, and the wrong one can set you back 20. Not one program was doing exactly what we are wanting to do. Through following programs with the same principles of maternal function, with genetics we preferred, and selecting a certain biological type from those herds. We continue to remake those cows with a light twist each generation to try and make them better through observation, not what an EPD search would encourage. As you go through this offering you will see those real-world selection principles from front to back. The bulls are stacked with tried and true genetics. They will all be great female makers and if used in the right context can really help your program move forward as well. They have been developed on a high roughage ration and are in shape to go to work for you. The bulls have run together as a group and will have no problem assimilating to each other. If you have any questions please reach out to Robert or myself. Sincerely, Brock Boyle

CATALOG DESIGNED BY: Elizabeth Nixon LLC PLEASE BRING THIS CATALOG WITH YOU TO SALE DAY!
We’ll preface this by saying: if you’re an EPD warrior, this probably isn’t the place for you. Do we use EPDs? Yes. Are they a determining factor? No. We can honestly say we’ve never gone into the American Angus Association database searching for a specific EPD profile to propagate into our herd just to improve numbers. Instead, we look at the female in front of us observe her, understand her strengths and weaknesses, then make intentional, thoughtful mating decisions. Each generation, we aim for small, incremental enhancements, roughly 3% adjustments designed to make cattle just a little better each generation. We really like where our cow herds are today and don’t feel the need to make big swings in any one direction. Cows that last are what add real dollars to the bottom line. Over time, we began looking for a different way to evaluate our cattle outside of the traditional EPD system. In our experience, EPDs often fail to accurately portray our cattle. They tend to favor the “latest and greatest” unproven cattle out of unproven cattle, often backed by multiple generations of first-calf heifers. Meanwhile, highly proven bulls and older, productive females are discounted due to slower generational turnover. Let’s face it: EPDs are adjusted annually, and as animals age, their profiles tend to drift lower over time to favor new cattle and keep the system churning. That reality is what made AgBoost a very appealing option for us. Once an animal is scored in AgBoost, that score is permanent. AgBoost measures cattle on a 0–10 scale, placing all animals on an even playing field and allowing them to be judged on true genetic merit. After studying this system for several years, we’ve found that the vast majority of our cattle perform best when they fall between 4.5 and 6. These animals tend to be the most balanced—doing everything right without extremes. Like anything, there are outliers on both ends of that range. An animal outside of it isn’t necessarily bad or dysfunctional; it may simply lack overall genetic punch or, on the other hand, be extremely strong in a few traits that push it above a 6. AgBoost evaluates the following categories: birth weight, calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, docility, heifer pregnancy rate, milk, stayability, average daily gain, residual feed intake, tenderness, marbling, ribeye area, fat thickness, hot carcass weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, and scrotal circumference. This allows us along with you to better select and mate animals to help propel our cattle to a desired outcome in a mating scenario. If you have any further questions on how to use the data to better help you please reach out to either of us.

A Note from Epling Farms...
Dear Friends, Fellow Cattlemen & Cattlewomen, Welcome to the first annual REAL WORLD PRINCIPLES Bull Sale on February 20, 2026, at Stockman’s Livestock in Yankton, SD. I would like to extend a very sincere thank you for your interest in our programs. It is truly humbling. A word about my program... I’ve always had the mindset of real cows in the real world creating real value. That is how I have attempted to breed this cow herd using old line reliable, maternal angus genetics, using Rito, Emulation, Emulous and Bandolier (Traveler) lines. I feel these genetics accomplish the Real World mindset, no chasing fads or the latest name bull with the big time EPD numbers. These older genetics produce an Angus cow that goes out year after year puts her head down, does her job problem free and drags a nice calf in at weaning time. The bulls have been grouped together at my place since last April, they have been developed on a high roughage diet. By doing so, we have attempted to develop the bulls at a slower rate and not push them hard like feedlot cattle by over-feeding and hindering scrotal development. This in turn prevents us from burning them out, destroying their feet and their ability to move freely and breed cows. It has been interesting caring for and feeding the bulls every day, watching them grow and mature. Please feel free to come evaluate the offering. Give either myself or Brock a call with any questions or just to talk cattle. Again, thank you for your interest in both our programs, we look forward to seeing you at the sale. Sincerely, Robert Epling

• Actual BW 76lb | Adj WW 639/Ratio 113 | Dam 2 calves with a 374 day calving interval • Actual Scrotal - 38 cm • A son of Ideal Encore with lots of performance bred into this bull with plenty of maternal qualities, he carries a +21 on milk and +92 on yearling EPD. Recommend use on cows.
• Actual BW 76lbs | Adj WW 507/Ratio 89 | Dam 6 calves with a 370 day calving interval • Actual Scrotal - 36 cm • An attractive bull phenotypically with good legs and solid feet. I always enjoy seeing his dam the 8MS1 cow on summer pasture, she is daughter of McCumber Fortunate 307, back to a N Bar Shadow sired cow. Plenty of maternal ability in this cow, the 402 bull, is a potential herd sire prospect. Recommended for cows and heifers.

Both these bulls are sired by the Thunderbolt 5RI2 bull from the Hancock Program in Wyoming. A stack of Rito/Emulation breeding. Maternal with plenty of performance bred in here. These bulls are calving ease genetics, should be safe for use on heifers. Study their dams both are maternally bred to provide years of service. A guy absolutely can’t go wrong with 5RI2 sons, keep their daughters, you won’t be disappointed!

Both sired by Rito J005, a son of the original Rito N Bar bull. He is out of a tremendous Emulation 5522 cow, going back on the legendary 4908 cow. True old line Rito/Emulation genetics. These guys are excellent tempered, quiet bulls with good feet, and legs under them. The dams of these two bulls are still active in my herd producing calves at 12 and 13 years of age. Don’t over look these guys! They are bred to go out and cover cows trouble free for numerous breeding seasons. The daughters will be a long lasting set of females. Recommended for use on cows.

These two bulls came in dam from females I purchased at the SVR Dispersal in Nebraska. Both cows are sired by the old Rito 72 bull himself, back on a Canadolier Forever 376 and a N Bar Shadow cows. The sires of 305 and 306 stem back to the Prince of Malpas bull, an very influential bull in the WYE program. Very unique and rare type of true maternal Angus genetics. Study these bulls carefully, a guy won’t find these genetics very easily. Both are heifer safe.

• Actual BW 83 | WW ratio 101 | Dams calving interval - 9/366 • Actual Scrotal - 35 cm • A Jazz son with a ton of potential. His dam is one of the best cows I have ever owned. She is super intelligent and does everything right. You can almost set your watch based on how she calves. I am excited to flush her next year and further her influence. The daughters of this bull will move an operation forward. He is one I would like to collect and use later. Maddox is recommended for cows.
• Actual BW 69 | WW ratio 101 | Dam’s calving interval - 7/366 • Actual Scrotal - 35 cm • This bull is named after a friend, mentor, and breeder of the sire of this bull, Bill Doyle. Bill is one of a kind. and one of nicest, most genuine people you will ever meet. He has been integral on me getting to this point in my Angus career. The sire of this bull D501 is in my opinion one of the better E31 sons ever made. He is a bull I tracked down later to implement in my program. The half sisters to this bull look fantastic. The dam of this bull is a fantastic female that is the front pasture kind. This bull is heifer safe and will make wonderful replacement females.

Actual BW 64
• Actual BW 82 lbs | WW ratio 101 | Dam’s calving interval - 6/371 • Actual Scrotal - 39 cm • This bull is sired by McCumber Trademark 0109 who was a selection of the Jauer family and is doing a very nice job in their program. He really clicked on this 8031 cow that I purchased from Jauer’s in 2024 with Max in tow. The dam of this bull is ROYALLY bred and stacked with some of the top Jauer females. That list includes: 2089, 7168, 78, 726, and 544 were all impactful cows in their program. She will be a cow to watch in my herd going forward. This bull is long spined and has a ton of style to him. Max is recommended for cows.
Actual Scrotal - 37.5 cm
• This bull came at side with his dam, which is why he doesnt have a ratio. I also dont have her complete calving data for a calving interval. His dam is a very good female with an incredible pedigree. She is a grand daughter of the legendary Primrose 2424 also known as the dam of EXT. This bull is long bodied and will put some punch into some calves. Monty is heifer safe.

• Actual BW 72 | WW Ratio 103 | Dam’s calving interval - 9/374 • Actual Scrotal - 34.5 cm • This bull is the youngest bull in the sale and the only fall 2024 in the sale. He is built right and will be super neat once he gets the time that the others in the sale have had. His pedigree is stacked with good cows and he has a 1/8 of simmy in him. This bull will leave you a set of feeder calves with a little more punch and females that will stay around. His maternal brother is working in Nebraska and has about as much look as you can find in a bull. Give him time and you will be glad you did. Manny is heifer safe.
