Reading Visual Arts is a textbook based on research where art experts were interviewed. The contents of this textbook were compiled with the help of art experts from different fields, such as painting, solar drawing, textile, photography, film, and vlogging. It is designed to help students meet the subject requirements and learn more about visual arts. It introduces visual arts, visual art concepts, the different kinds of visual arts, and how to read visual arts. The contents of this textbook are concise, time-bound, interesting, and practical. It is also patterned according to the objectives of the course syllabus, Reading Visual Arts. Through this textbook, students are expected to gain an overall understanding and appreciation of the visual arts. It will also help students gain techniques in reading visual arts.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
ELAINE GRACE J. DIZON, PHD
She is a professor at Saint Louis University, Baguio City. Prior to teaching in the university, she was a researcher and trainer. She used to train ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers on how to teach English to foreigners. She has a PhD in Language Education, master’s degree in Language Education, and a bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Education. Her interests include language teaching, gender studies in language, nonverbal communication, aesthetics, and sociolinguistics. Her dissertation was related to aesthetics, specifically Reading Visual Arts. Aside from teaching, she hosts her own podcast, Rainbows with Elaine Dizon, via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts. She also co-hosts the digital interactive show, EL Talks.
