Art Appreciation

Art Appreciation was written to aid college students in developing their ability to appreciate, analyze, and critique works of art. Using the interdisciplinary approach, this book addresses the learning outcomes prescribed by the Commission on Higher Education for Art Appreciation, such as to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of arts in general, including their function, value, and historical significance; to define and demonstrate the elements and principles of design; to explain and evaluate different theories of art; to utilize art for self-expression and for promoting advocacies; to deepen their sensitivity to self, community, and society; and to discover and deepen their identity through art with respect to their nationality, culture, and religion. To this end, this book wishes to contribute to the holistic development of Filipino learners, so that college students not only become skilled professionals or experts in their chosen fields, but also truly human beings who think and socialize and also appreciate the works of their hands and the beauty they are capable of creating and beholding.
