Human Rights Education is a new addition to the Criminology Curriculum under Criminal Law and Jurisprudence pursuant to the Commission on Higher Education Memorandum Order No. 05, series of 2018. This textbook aims to educate students taking up the law enforcement course on basic concepts, philosophies, and principles concerning human rights from both local and international perspectives. It likewise seeks to challenge the students on current issues and trends in the form of activities consistent with the outcomes-based methodologies. Toward this end, a criminology graduate intending to serve as an agent in the law enforcement arm of the government will be knowledgeable about the basics of human rights. Human Rights Education
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
RENATO M. ABASTILLAS, JR.
He obtained his baccalaureate degree in criminology from the Philippine College of Criminology. He also received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law as a Club Bulakeño Foundation scholar. He is currently pursuing his Master of Laws at the University of the Philippines College of Law. He has been a criminology board reviewer in Criminal Law and Jurisprudence since 2007 and has been in the government service for more than a decade. He currently holds the position of Assistant City Prosecutor of Quezon City. He is the recipient of the 2020 Outstanding Criminologist of the Year Award-Government Service Category by the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines.
ERIC PAUL D. PERALTA
He is an assistant professor at the Department of Human and Family Development Studies, College of Human Ecology. University of the Philippines- Los Baños. He is also the current Director of the UPLB Gender Center. As a practicing lawyer, he co-owns branches of Peralta Law Offices in Laguna. As an author, he published the first Filipino reference material for the subject of Gender and Society in the General Education Curriculum for Tertiary Education under REX Book Store, Inc. His other book, entitled the Contemporary World, is also released on the market. He is a student in the Doctor of Development Studies Program at UPLB.
ELENO O. PERALTA
He is the former and first Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños. He is an associate professor at the Department of Social Forestry and Forest Governance (DSFFG), College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), and an affiliate professor at the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM), both at UPLB. He has academic degrees of Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Master in Development Management and Governance (MDMG), and Doctor of Philosophy in Forest Administration and Policy (Ph.D. FOR: FRM). He has 35 years of litigation practice and is the owner of the Peralta Law Offices, established in 1990.
NEPHTALY JOEL B. BOTOR
He is a values educator and psychometrician by profession. He is an assistant professor and program coordinator of the Pintig Adolescent Development Program at the Department of Human and Family Development Studies, College of Human Ecology, University of the Philippines-Los Baños. His specializations are family and community-based counseling, Mental Health and Psychological Support in Emergency Setting (MHPSS), and gender and sexuality. He provides technical assistance to government and non-government agencies in the areas of gender and sexuality.
