As spring blooms around us, it's time to embrace the energy and excitement of March.

From new initiatives to exciting events, we've got a lot in store for you this month.

So, take a break, and dive into the March highlights with us ☕

The time has come to unveil the curtain and gain insights into the dynamic world of HR.

Get ready for an illuminating exploration as we spotlight the incredible individuals who are the backbone of our organisation, shaping the present and paving the way for a promising future.

It's the moment we've all been waiting for – let's hear what our human resources team is truly all about.

A Brief Overview of the HR Department's Role

HR is essentially a “catch all” department which has two main priorities: Ensuring the business is performing within it’s legal and ethical boundaries, while also ensuring that its people (the most important part of any business) can work successfully in a safe and responsible environment.

HR has several aspects within it that can make the department both rewarding and educating to work in which can really set people up for success in their careers.

In general, HR work directly with all of the other departments in our business to assist with areas such as:

How Has The HR Department Evolved Over the Years?

While the team has seen some changes to its members, both Catie and Fiona Canny have been staple points of the team providing the business with support through its many steps of improvement.

Our department has seen huge changes over the years, all under the strong leadership of Catie O’Mahoney.

More recently, we have seen the team change to introduce Jason Topping. Previously, Jason was our People Development Manager - so he knows his way around our staff! See him above pictured with his beloved Spaniel, Teddy - the fluffy mascot of Intelling!

Jason is followed by Tiana McNally, located in Belfast, who does an amazing job quickly becoming a valued team member and securing her CIPD qualification.

How Has The HR Department Evolved Over the Years?

Lastly, the lovely Neetha Moodley has shown how to increase engagement on our South Africa sites with several initiatives and solid updates being provided to the business and has already started supporting the UK sites as well.

With the launch of our South Africa office, there was a clear requirement to have someone join us and support the teams, introducing Tasnim Rajak who has been actively involved in the successful launch of our South African office and continues to adapt and conquer challenges daily to help create a great culture.

The department itself continues to evolve almost daily due to constant changes that we need to help the business adapt to changes in regulations, expectations, and even cultural changes.

This is what makes it such an interesting department to be part of!

How do Teams Within HR Collaborate with Each Other and Different Departments?

Collaboration is key in a large business like ours, however, it doesn’t come without its challenges.

As all departments have their own goals and objectives to work towards, including the HR department, communication becomes extremely important in this. The HR department pushes hard to be always contactable, ensuring emails and queries are responded to quickly, while also providing advice and training courses to the wider business. The department is regularly involved in projects and objectives with other departments in our constant effort to ensure the business runs smoothly, which can see the department engaging in face-to-face meetings, teams call, online chats, suggestion forums and at times, engaging with external companies to maximise our possibilities. The inner workings of the planning and execution of the projects and objectives can be very bespoke at times too, which really encourages an aspect of collaboration as we can all share best practices and ideas to come to the best solutions.

With all the growth in the business, we are now in the position where we have over 1000 employees across multiple countries making us a Global company! What are some Notable Achievements or Milestones the HR Department has Accomplished Recently?

This has been exciting for us as this has demonstrated new challenges and opportunities for us to grow through.

In addition to this, the department has also begun to see the implementation of our Culture Ambassador initiative which engages with nominated employees to discuss key areas of change that can really drive the culture of Intelling forward. Additionally, we have been supporting our local communities with donations, and have welcomed over 20 students in the last year on site to complete work experience, helping them learn vital skills to assist with their future careers.

Q&A With HR

Read on to see what our HR team have said...

Fiona Canny

Catie O’Mahoney

Fun fact about yourself: I walked the longest Gorge in Europe with the worst hangover ever and in flip flops! How would you describe your leadership style, and how does it contribute to the success of the HR team? I would describe my leadership style as passionate, supportive, and direct … to the point 😊 . I delegate tasks to upskill my team members, pushing them outside of their comfort zones which I can confidently say has been a great success and shows how giving team members confidence and believing in them naturally elevates them to the next level. If you had a theme song every time you walked into a room, , what would it be, and why did you choose it? It’s not a song more of my mantra… “We will get there in the end, just keep going”, this is a phrase I have used throughout by career and former colleagues have always said this will be written on my headstone! We all have challenges whichever department we work in, yet if you have the resilience to overcome and see the challenge through this will always lead to great rewards.

Fun fact about yourself: Love socialising and spending time with my family. How do you approach and resolve conflicts within the workplace? Talk to everyone involved, listen carefully to all the evidence and understand all the reasons they have put forward, Identify all points of the agreement and disagreement, ensure all the areas of conflict are noted, make a plan which suits all involved so everyone is happy with the outcome, Follow though all that has been discussed and ensure everyone is happy with the end result and ensure all is resolved. If you could create a quirky job title for yourself, what would it be? Miss Approachable 😊

Jason Topping Tiana McNally

Fun fact about yourself: Not only have I been amongst the top 1% of World of Warcraft players in the past, but an alternative company were also crazy enough to take me on board as a model! What is your guiding philosophy when it comes to HR and talent management? Everything comes down to mindset and controllables. Every day you may face a new challenge, or a new reason to believe that something can’t be done but if you focus on what you can control, what you can learn, what you can practice and track your successes this can really help towards achieving the goals and successes you want. Work Perk Wish: If you could introduce one extravagant work perk, what would it be? Bring your doggy to work days!!!!!!! If there were Olympics for desk-related activities, what event would you compete in? Does the Olympics include competitive eating? I would do alright on that I reckon ;P

Fun fact about yourself: I eat tomato ketchup with everything (Chinese food, mash potato, pasta hehe)! How do you provide effective administrative support to the HR team? Always ensure that the inbox is neat and tidy to allow for new enquiries to be answered swiftly. Ensure the correct paperwork is sent at all times along with keeping the information on file update and accurate. If your desk had a fortune-telling feature, what's the first question you'd ask about the future of HR? What future enquiries will we receive in the week ahead so we can prepare and be ready for the week 😊

Tamsin Rajak Neetha Moodley

Fun fact about yourself: I love singing and dancing!

Fun fact about yourself: Back in the day, I was quite the maestro! I rocked the harmonium like a pro, even teaching a few lessons along the way. What inspired you to specialise in employee engagement, and how do you measure its success? I chose to specialise in employee engagement because I believe that engaged employees are the cornerstone of a successful organisation. When employees are engaged, they are more productive, motivated, and committed to their work. I am passionate about creating positive work environments where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered. If employee engagement were a fitness class what type of workout would it be? If employee engagement were a fitness class, it'd be the 'Dance-off Dodgeball Yoga Bootcamp'—where you simultaneously dodge office politics, stretch the truth, and sweat out deadlines while doing the electric slide. It's the only workout where you can exercise your body, mind, and funny bone all at once!

What's the most interesting or surprising HR trend you've observed recently? When you request to speak to an employee they usually/ always ask what have I done? If your work desk could speak, what would it say about your work habits? Organized and efficient

In every workplace, there are individuals who go above and beyond to foster a positive and engaging environment for their colleagues. Let’s meet our awesome ambassadors!

Introducing Adele Joshua, our vibrant culture ambassador, hails from Durban, SA, who has been with Intelling for six months! Adele's passion for people makes her a perfect fit for the role. Having experienced and embraced Intelling's culture firsthand, Adele is eager to share positive energy with others, as she believes in fostering teamwork within the workplace. As an ambassador, Adele embodies qualities of openness, maturity, kindness, and respect. She is committed to engaging in constructive discussions and promoting education among her peers. We asked Adele to share her most memorable moment, sharing positivity, this was her response: “The first ever lunch of legends- I sat on the floor watching winners get shocked, cry and jump for joy when they heard they were not just winners but nominated. I saw the power of recognition and how this impacted the individual when we as a business recognised their efforts and rewarded them for this.” A quote that inspires Adele.. “ You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

Zama Nxumalo from Intelling Umhlanga, SA, a shining star at VMO2 Inbound! 🌟 Zama's drive to become a Cultural Ambassador at Intelling SA stems from her passion for promoting cultural diversity and understanding in the workplace. With an open mind and a heart full of appreciation for different cultures, Zama is eager to communicate, listen, and explore the unique personalities that make up our Intelling family. Her dedication to spreading awareness and fostering cultural exchange is admirable. By sharing traditions, values, and customs, Zama aims to bridge cultural gaps and create a more inclusive work environment for all. As she takes on this additional role, Zama seeks to challenge herself and grow both personally and professionally. Her enthusiasm for building meaningful relationships within the workplace is palpable, making her an invaluable asset to our team. We applaud Zama for her commitment to promoting diversity, embracing inclusion, and cultivating a workplace where every voice is heard and valued!

Hayyan Saleem, our Culture Ambassador from Staysure- Manchester, at Intelling! With over 2 years of experience in Sales and Customer Service, Hayyan's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. From campaigns like O2 inbound to Recontracts and 360, he's gained invaluable skills and knowledge along the way. Joining the ambassador group allows Hayyan to engage with his Intelling family in a more targeted and specialized manner. It's an opportunity for him to showcase his capabilities, learn from interactions, and contribute positively to the community by sharing helpful information. Hayyan's favorite quote, "Real change takes time. It takes consistent, enthusiastic action..." reflects his mindset towards growth and progress. He encourages a shift in perspective from "having to make changes" to "getting to make changes," a subtle shift that can make all the difference. Let's all take a page from Hayyan's book and embrace the mindset of enthusiastic action and positive change. After all, it's all about perspective!

Introducing Gerard Majella Weldon, a passionate advocate for cultural diversity and inclusion in the workplace! Gerard's journey as a culture ambassador began with a simple yet powerful desire: to enrich our workforce with the vibrant tapestry of cultures and foster respect among all team members. With a wealth of experience in call centers, Gerard understands the intricacies of motivating agents and believes that embracing diversity is key to a thriving work environment. One of Gerard's most cherished moments was welcoming a new colleague in Belfast, Ireland, and immersing himself in their culture by sharing traditional food. This experience highlighted the beauty of cultural exchange and the importance of embracing different perspectives. Two quotes that resonate deeply with Gerard are: "Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days," emphasizing the importance of purposeful action; and "You were born to win, but to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win," underscoring the significance of determination and preparation in achieving success.

Thokozile Shange , from Durban South Africa embodies the spirit of inclusivity and understanding, making her the perfect advocate for diversity within our company. With her wealth of experience in the call center industry, she knows firsthand the importance of happy employees and a supportive work environment. As a Cultural Ambassador, Thokozile is on a mission to bridge cultural gaps and ensure that every employee feels valued and respected. She's committed to understanding the diverse backgrounds of our team members and using that insight to make decisions that benefit everyone. Thokozile's passion for creating a home away from home at work is truly inspiring. Join us in celebrating her dedication to making Intelling a more inclusive and welcoming place for all! A quote that resonates with Thokozile, “The undying spirit is the positive flame of every mindset”

Craig Jones, one of our exceptional Culture Ambassadors, from Preston, shared his most memorable moment with us, and it's truly inspiring. Imagine being asked to step up as an Employee Representative, despite never having spoken publicly before. That's exactly what Craig experienced. Nerves were at an all-time high as he rounded the corner to face every staff member's gaze. But with courage and determination, Craig embraced the challenge. Fast forward a couple of days, and Craig's efforts were recognized as he was announced as the representative for the site. It's moments like these that remind us of the power of taking risks and seizing opportunities. Craig aptly captures the essence of his journey with the quote, "You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take" by Wayne Gretzky. It's a testament to his resilience and willingness to step out of his comfort zone. Let's all take a moment to applaud Craig for his courage and dedication to our team.

Meet Luke Lavington, representing Manchester as part of Intelling's Cultural Ambassador Group! Even in his current role as an agent, Luke possesses a keen ability to identify the feelings and needs of his fellow staff members. He's always ready to provide extra support to those who need it, lend a listening ear to those who wish to raise concerns but lack confidence, and assist those struggling to articulate their thoughts. Luke firmly believes in the importance of treating all staff members with fairness and equality. He advocates for approachability among all staff, from agents to senior management, to foster a supportive and inclusive workplace environment for everyone.

Meet Robert Curtis Howlings , a dedicated member of the Intelling family, based in Belfast, Ireland, for the past four years! Robert's decision to join our ambassador group stems from his genuine curiosity about different cultures. Curtis's most memorable moment at Intelling was when a member of another team, originally from India, brought in homemade meals. He explained how special it was to him as the dish was passed down from his family. Curtis found it incredibly meaningful to taste the food and hear the story behind the recipe, learning why it was so vital to his colleague's culture. As for his motivational quote, Curtis resonates with Tina Turner's words: "I believe that if you'll just stand up and go, life will open up for you. Something just motivates you to keep on moving." Craig aptly captures the essence of his journey with the quote, "You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take" by Wayne Gretzky. It's a testament to his resilience and willingness to step out of his comfort zone. Let's all take a moment to applaud Craig for his courage and dedication to our team.

Dorian Kananga, our French connection in the Intelling Cultural Ambassador Group!

Harsha Talreja, our ambassador from India has done some amazing work with the teams in our Indian sites. Harsha Talreja's dedication and efforts in driving employee engagement initiatives in our Indian sites are truly commendable. We're thrilled to see the positive impact they've had so far and look forward to witnessing their ongoing success in fostering a vibrant and engaged workplace culture. Here's to Harsha and the entire team's continued achievements and the exciting journey ahead!

With just 8 months under his belt, Dorian's vibrant personality and love for new challenges is what makes him a great addition to the team. Embracing the role of Manchester Cultural Ambassador, Dorian brings a fresh perspective and a drive to enhance employee engagement across the board. Passionate about driving change and improvement, Dorian dedicates himself to fostering active participation in initiatives within the Manchester site. His sociable nature and commitment to his duties make him a valuable asset to our team. We’re look forward to the work Dorian will continue to put in as he embraces his role with enthusiasm and dedication. Keep shining, we believe in you, Dorian!

Welcome Back, Moe Subhan

The Legend Returns to Lead!

Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves for the return of the prodigious and highly esteemed gentleman we've been eagerly awaiting! After what felt like a century of anticipation, our favourite leader is back – the one and only Mr. Mohamed (Moe Magic) Subhan.

Let's be real, his fame, talents, and workmanship in the industry precede him like a legendary anthem. But hey, he's not just the GM we adore; he's the age-defying maestro who's only 37! At this sprightly age, Moe is not just conquering the corporate world, he's also the proud father of two strapping lads, aged 13 and 5, who, as he'll tell you, mean the absolute world to him. When he's not enchanting us with his leadership prowess, you'll find him enjoying quality time with his boys – superhero battles and Lego masterpieces, anyone? But that's not all – Moe's social calendar is as lively as his management style. He's all about those friend gatherings and making memories outside the boardroom. Now, let's take a stroll down memory lane because Moe's been in the contact centre game for over 17 years. Yep, he's been there, done that, starting off as a sales agent on the dialer and now rocking the GM hat. So, without further ado, let's collectively roll out the red carpet and extend the heartiest welcome to Durban's General Manager at Intelling-SA, the man, the myth, the legend – Mr. Mohamed (Magic Moe ) Subhan!

Q&A With Moe We caught up with the man of the hour, Moe Magic himself, and fired away a few questions to get the inside scoop on his plans and a few other juicy tidbits.

Here’s what he had to say:

Thanks a million for sharing, Moe!

Welcome back to the team!

We're confident that amazing things are on the horizon, and we wish you nothing but absolute success in this exciting new season.

Let's make it legendary!

Huge congrats to associates Nomvelo Mjwara, Nonduduzo Bhengu, and their team leader Sanele Mngadi for outstanding customer feedback! 🎉 Nomvelo's customer gave a perfect 10, praising her for resolving the enquiry and delivering exceptional service. Similarly, Nonduduzo scored a 10 for her excellent customer care, making the customer feel comfortable with clear communication. Kudos to the team for their dedication to customer satisfaction!

Congratulations to Sarwat on the arrival of his baby girl! Wishing you and your growing family a lifetime of love, joy, and precious moments together.

We’re bursting with pride for Kaylene! Here’s the feedback she received from Shell: “Over the past few weeks, Kaylene has truly shone, taking on administrative duties, leading calibration sessions, and driving meaningful conversations like a pro. Kaylene fearlessly voices her opinions and isn't afraid to challenge decisions, demonstrating her self-belief and deep understanding of our compliance requirements. She's embraced challenges head-on and taken the lead in guiding and facilitating discussions, ultimately elevating the quality of our sessions and driving collective success. I firmly believe in sharing positive feedback for those who go above and beyond, and Kaylene is definitely one of those people.”

Guess who popped the big question? That's right, our very own Cameron Hill! Let's shower him with congratulations as he takes this exciting step in his journey of love. Here's to Cameron and his lovely fiancé - may your future together be filled with endless love, laughter, and luck!

Hats off to Thomas Clegg and Gareth Craig for their swift action in handling a sensitive customer situation. Thanks to their promptness, we prevented a prolonged service disruption for the customer. Cheers to their dedication and excellent customer service!
