Build Academy students showcase their new skills at SkillBuild 2025

Two Build Academy students, Frankie and Tjan, participated in the show as part of the SEND Learner Showcase, taking on a timed painting and decorating challenge, which required them to upscale a drawing onto a wall then use painting and wallpapering techniques to complete the piece. Both students completed the challenge on time and to a high standard. FMB London extends its congratulations to Frankie and Tjan. Two Build Academy students took part in the SEND (special educational needs or disabilities) category at the Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) SkillBuild National Final at the MK Arena in Milton Keynes to show off the skills they have learned at the academy. SkillBuild is delivered by CITB and is the largest multitrade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices. The show features 80 young people demonstrating a range of trades including bricklaying plastering, painting and decorating and stonemasonry.

FMB Cymru will set out key priorities for the next Welsh Government at the launch of its manifesto in Cardiff on 4 February. Skills will feature prominently. Hard Hat Hangout returns

Late last year, the Hard Hat Hangout returned, providing an informal networking event for members at the Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell. They put the world to rights, covering topics such as health and safety, job pricing, digital tools, mental health, licensing and AI as well key issues like what radio station to tune into on Friday. The Hard Hat Hangout is a great way for FMB members to meet socially and talk about the issues they face. Attendees included FMB London and
