Bruce Lee Might’ve Lost Luster
But Not His Legacy
On Nov. 27 this year, Bruce Lee would’ve turned 81 years old.
skill was never truly tested on many other masters. There’s even footage of Bruce Lee competing in competitions in California with noticeably less prowess than depicted on the big screen. And despite his intense athletic regime, he was declared medically unfit for the draft. Many other aspects of Bruce Lee’s notoriety have been called into question as well. He was often portrayed as an impoverished immigrant who came to America to make it big, although he actually grew up in an upper-class Hong Kong family with their own chauffeur and two live-in maids. Quentin Tarantino received a lot of heat from depicting a Bruce Lee-like character in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” as easily defeated by a heavyweight boxer. However, I’m not sure that Bruce Lee would have been able to compete against extremely skilled boxers, and, as a martial artist myself, I can say he most likely would not have had a chance competing against the world’s top mixed martial artists today. Flaws aside, competitive mixed martial arts would likely cease to exist without Bruce Lee’s incredible pioneering of the sport. If he hadn’t decided to break tradition and portray his accomplishments on screen, mixed martial arts wouldn’t have been accepted into the mainstream and led to the creative fighters that we see today. For all of this and more, Bruce Lee can count me as a lifelong fan.
After watching “The Karate Kid” in 1984, I became intrigued with martial arts and inspired to rent movies with martial arts’ most iconic star, Bruce Lee. But pre-internet, Bruce Lee wasn’t just a celebrity. He was a mythical creature, only ever revealed on screen — a man who was foretold to be the best martial artist in the entire world. Lee’s skill was only part of his legend, of course. Arguably, Bruce Lee’s biggest accomplishment was being the world’s first celebrity mixed martial artist. Combining moves between various forms of martial arts was greatly discouraged and simply wasn’t a part of the martial arts culture for a long time. Not only that, but Lee’s stunning performances also allowed an entirely new genre of film to take off in a way that’s reminiscent of the modern superhero movie phenomenon. When he died at the shocking age of 32 years old, Bruce Lee’s legacy rose to a whole new level. However, like many things, the internet has revealed a lot about Bruce Lee — at least, it revealed that he wasn’t perfect. In new documentaries and biographies written about Bruce Lee, researchers have talked with childhood classmates, friends, and even the last woman to have seen him alive. These conversations unveiled details about the legend’s life that surprised fans like myself.

How to Cook for Diabetics and Vegans on Turkey Day Thanksgiving Dinner for All
Alongside family and football, food is often the highlight of Thanksgiving. But if you’re cooking dinner for a large group, crafting the perfect menu can be difficult. Veganism and vegetarianism are more popular than ever, and it can be frustrating finding dishes that everyone can enjoy — or even eat at all, in the case of a diabetic friend or family member. Luckily, there are plenty of options to create an amazing meal for any group of diverse diners.
with Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, and sliced almonds are healthy and tasty and can round out the perfect meal.
Vegans
The best thing about cooking Thanksgiving for a vegan is that there are plenty of substitutes for classic dishes. Vegan turkeys are available at most grocery stores. It may not look like your traditional turkey since there are no bones, but it still cooks and tastes like a turkey. If a vegan turkey is out of the question, you can try making a mushroom Wellington or roasted cauliflower as a replacement. For side dishes, vegan macaroni and cheese and roasted Brussels sprouts are easy and safe. As for dessert, most grocery stores carry a variety of gluten-free and vegan desserts at their bakery, such as nondairy ice cream and flourless cookies, that taste similar or identical to their gluten-filled, non-vegan counterparts.
Diabetics
“I was recommended Attorney Matthew Konecky through an old friend of his. I had a civil issue that was just on the tip of being criminal. However, if it weren’t for the glory of God, he would have not placed Matthew’s services in my path. Matthew is professional, courteous, and knowledgeable and definitely knew his stuff. Additionally, he is honestly transparent — something that sets him apart from attorneys in his particular practice of law. I highly recommend Matthew above any attorney in Palm Beach. You won’t regret it.” –Carlos R. AMESSAGE FROM THE FAITHFUL Thanksgiving is a stressful time for anyone who monitors their blood sugar. Sweet potato casserole and sugar-packed pies can tempt even the most diet-conscious diabetic. But undereating can be as unhealthy for diabetics as overeating, so it’s important to include appetizers in your Thanksgiving menu. Healthy options include raw vegetables and hummus, roasted nuts, shrimp cocktail, or a cheeseboard. For the main meal, turkey is fine if you hold off on any brown sugar or honey glaze. Green bean casserole is safe as well, and stuffing can be included as long as you use whole-grain bread. For dessert, parfaits made

FIRST-TIME DUI OFFENDER Will I Go to Jail?
Driving under the influence (DUI) is an offense under Florida law that is proven by impairment of unlawful blood alcohol or breath alcohol levels of .08 or higher. A DUI, (driving while intoxicated) DWI, or even a refusal to provide a breath or blood test sample are all serious charges and can even lead to jail time.
possible alternatives to jail can include DUI diversion programs. These programs often involve:
•
Various types of community service work done in exchange for credit toward a jail sentence
Will I serve jail time for my DUI/DWI?
• • •
An electronic monitoring program
Drug or alcohol treatment
Serving jail time for getting a DUI or DWI entirely depends on the case but is not mandatory on a first offense. However, DUI laws in Florida are ever-changing and becoming increasingly stricter each year. If you were arrested for a second DUI within five years of your first arrest, you may be subjected to a mandatory 10 days in jail along with mandatory probation.
Second offense DUIs (within five years of the first) in Florida are not eligible for Florida DUI diversion programs, but a judge may still grant inpatient treatment in lieu of jail depending on the case.
While a first offense DUI can be looked at as a bad mistake (a one-time occurrence — especially with a clean record), this is not likely to happen with a second offense.
Keep in mind that, just like any other criminal offense in Florida, a DUI is a public record. Usually, a DUI charge is not eligible to be sealed and expunged unless it is reduced to a lesser charge. A dropped or not guilty finding is eligible to be expunged. To find out if you are eligible to have your case sealed and expunged, don’t hesitate to contact our office as soon as possible!
Are there alternatives to jail after getting a first-time DUI?
In Florida, the judge has sole discretion about ordering alternative sentences, which can count as a replacement toward jail time. Usually, these requests will only be granted if the DUI was a misdemeanor and/or nonviolent and the offender has no prior violent criminal record. Some

November Is Secretly the Best Time to Camp
November Is Secretly the Best Time to Camp Stargazing, Bird-Watching, and More
Stargazing Less rain means fewer clouds, which means clearer nights. Combine that with fewer leaves on the trees, and you have an unobscured view that’s better than any other time of the year. November is also one of the few months when you can see meteor showers. If you’ve ever been entranced by the night sky, November provides the perfect opportunity to stargaze. Bird-Watching At this point in the season, many birds have already begun to migrate south. Some birds have stopover locations they stay at for a few days, so you might see birds unique to the area due to their migration. States in the north might see their local birds flying against beautiful backdrops as they make their journey to warmer areas. Regardless of your camping expertise, November is the perfect time to immerse yourself in the great outdoors. If you’re looking for a new family adventure or just want some personal quiet time to reflect, look no further than fall camping.
Camping is most often associated with summer, but the humid, hot weather combined with the numerous bugs can create a frustrating experience. Most don’t realize that fall — specifically November — is the perfect time to take the family for an outdoor adventure. Here are some of the best reasons to pitch your tent in November. Scenery and Weather Camping in spring usually brings the risk of rain, while summer temperatures can make it unbearable. Fall weather, however, provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy camping to its fullest. It’s usually dry, and most states do not hit colder temperatures until the end of November. The leaves also change color in preparation for winter, which creates some truly awe-inspiring scenery — and a natural playground for children. Just watch for hidden dangers lurking beneath the fallen leaves that could injure your child. You shouldn’t have to worry about bugs, though; November has significantly fewer bugs than the summer or spring months.
