The fresh fiber packaging is lightweight and durable, supporting the circular economy in terms of easy recycling and minimizing the amount of material used. The third prize, 2000 euros, was awarded to the proj- ect, RESHAPE by Dawid Thiel, Poland. This packaging concept is designed to work for a wider range of products thanks to an innovative packaging format, which signifi- cantly reduces the number of packaging items that need to be stored. An internship at Metsä Board’s Paperboard and Pack- aging Excellence Centre in Finland was awarded to one student. The winner was Zero Waste Medication Blister Pack designed by Patrick Walby, Australia, a package for the pharma industry that aims to replace plastic and alumi- num often used in medication packaging with paperboard. The international packaging design competition third organized by Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group. The com- petition invited designers to create the zero-waste pack- aging of the future. As many as 124 entrants from 27 coun- tries joined the challenge with their creative ideas. The competition jury included renowned packaging design experts from around the world. Starting on the flexography side of the business, Slin- gerland then built over two decades of experience to the corrugated packaging industry. In his new role, he will fo- cus on the offerings of Koenig & Bauer Durst, such as the Delta SPC 130. Developed for high-speed short, medium, and long run jobs, and equipped with water-based ink, manufacturers and converters can achieve fully automat- ed and sustainable production, while fully exploiting the potential of digitization.
