Ralph Lauren’s first animated short film sends Polo Bear on a six-minute art caper. THE POLO CHRONICLE
by THE FASHIONOGRAPHY R
alph Lauren’s most charming muse has finally stepped off the sweater and onto the screen. The Polo Bear—longtime
emblem of the house’s preppy irreverence— takes center stage in The Polo Bear Chronicles: Operation Black Tie, a six-minute animated short that recasts the cuddly icon as the hero of an art caper. The full film premieres August 14 on YouTube, following the release of its sleek, cinematic trailer. The plot unfolds like a dream sequence stitched from Ralph Lauren’s archives. A Manhattan townhouse glimmers under dim jazz. Sharp tailoring cuts the air as the bear glides through moonlit galleries, onto brownstone stoops, across beachside terraces, and into the lush green of a polo estate. A streetwise pigeon joins him for the chase—an unlikely partner in the retrieval of stolen art, both impeccably dressed for the occasion. What makes this short remarkable is not just the whimsy of the character but the way it serves as a living portfolio of Ralph Lauren’s visual codes. Each setting acts as a runway, each outfit a wink to the brand’s archives: the tuxedoed gallantry, the collegiate stripes, the effortless sportswear chic. It is nostalgia sharpened with modern polish, translating decades of design into a moving narrative that feels at once fresh and familiar. Since his debut in 1990, Polo Bear has graduated from novelty sweater motif to brand legend. Generations have worn him with equal parts irony and affection, proof that this stitched character has always carried something larger than fashion: a story, a world, a lifestyle. With Operation Black Tie, Ralph Lauren turns that world cinematic, offering a six-minute immersion in the house’s codes—polish, wit, and an enduring wink. The bear isn’t just wearing the brand anymore. He is the brand.

Louis Vuitton taps architectural icons Frank Gehry and Peter Marino for a groundbreaking Beverly Hills flagship, promising a revolutionary shopping and cultural experience by 2029. THE VUITTON VISION
groundbreaking anticipated in 2026, all eyes will be on how this landmark will elevate Beverly Hills’ status not just as a shopping destination, but as a global cultural hub. What sets the Beverly Hills project apart is its intent to merge fashion with community engagement. By incorporating public art programs, culinary collaborations, and rooftop spaces designed for social gatherings, Louis Vuitton positions the flagship as more than a commercial venue—it becomes a civic landmark. This approach reflects a growing shift among luxury houses to expand beyond exclusivity, creating destinations that invite cultural participation while retaining their aspirational allure. For Beverly Hills itself, the arrival of such a visionary property marks both continuity and evolution. The city has long been defined by high- end retail, but with Louis Vuitton’s bold investment, the narrative expands toward lifestyle tourism and cultural relevance. It signals a future where shopping districts evolve into experiential enclaves, setting a precedent that could reshape luxury retail not only in Los Angeles, but around the world.

Nadia Lee Cohen Brings Aphex Twin’s Korg Funk 5 to Life RETRO REVERIE
by THE FASHIONOGRAPHY
N
adia Lee Cohen has never shied away from bending reality into something both alluring and unsettling. The
photographer and filmmaker—celebrated for her surreal collaborations with Saint Laurent and Tyler, the Creator—has unveiled a new vision: a video for Aphex Twin’s 2017 track Korg Funk 5. Co-directed with Charlie Denis, the film surfaced unannounced on Instagram, where it immediately rippled through feeds, merging the cult world of Richard D. James (the man behind Aphex Twin) with Cohen’s uncanny lens. The track itself is already a family affair, featuring vocals from James’s son and composed entirely on Korg synthesizers. Cohen leans into this intimacy, weaving a home-movie sensibility with her signature retro flair. Saturated tones, satire-laced styling, and a fashion editorial’s sense of narrative give the song an unexpected visual wardrobe. It’s a meeting of avant-garde minds: James, with his appetite for sonic extremes—what he once called “fucked-muffled/lo-bit/’70s sound”— and Cohen, with her cinematic nods to bygone decades. Where Aphex Twin’s visuals have long flirted with the uncanny—from distorted faces in Come to Daddy to warped live projections—this clip trades menace for nostalgia. The result feels both familiar and estranged, a surreal reflection of electronic music’s underground pulse refracted through fashion’s dreamscape. For Cohen, the project underscores her knack for building worlds that straddle the line between glossy artifice and disquieting truth. By applying her fashion-forward sensibilities to one of electronic music’s most enigmatic figures, she has created a piece that doesn’t just illustrate a track but expands it, suggesting that sound and image, in their most daring forms, can share the same surreal frequency.

meals every day in school, and attendance has soared to an incredible 99 percent. For Anita, this means she can stay in class, focus on her studies, and sing with energy and joy. And the story doesn’t stop at school lunch. Convoy’s agriculture training has empowered local farmers — including Anita’s parents — to help sustain the feeding program. Through the harvests on their own farm, her family not only provides food for their own home, but also contributes to the school’s meals. This powerful connection between Convoy’s feeding program and agriculture program ensures long-term sustainability for the entire community. They can break the cycle of poverty for themselves because they now have access to the tools and resources they need to do so.
“My family and I previously didn’t really trust outside organizations trying to help our village because they would only be here for a short period of time and then when they left, we weren’t given the skills to continue the programs,” Anita said. “My family now has a very positive view of nonprofit organizations, because Convoy has done so much. They didn’t just give us food, they’ve taught us how to grow the food ourselves.” Looking ahead, Anita hopes to use her voice — whether through singing or business — to support her family and invest back into her community. For Anita, every note she sings is carried on a foundation of hope, education, and the nourishment that comes from both a meal and a sustainable future.

atalan artist Joan Miró created The Farm over the course of nine months. The painting was so deeply personal to Joan Miró’s The Farm turns everyday life in Mont-roig into a dreamlike fusion of realism and cubism — a deeply personal meditation on memory and place that the artist compared to giving birth. THE FARM by THE FASHIONOGRAPHY C
One of the most intriguing mysteries behind this work is its arresting visual style. Like Miró himself, the painting resists categorization. The Farm combines elements of cubism and realism. Objects appear from varying points of view, a technique common in cubism. But they are rendered with great detail, which is characteristic of realism. The result is a highly detailed work full of precisely painted items that also feels like something out of a fantasy. Miró created a bustling scene of daily life in Mont-roig, but threw in quite a few mysterious elements. The contradictions are what make the piece so compelling: ordinary farm tools, animals, and plants coexist with distorted perspectives and dreamlike arrangements, blurring the line between reality and imagination. In this sense, The Farm becomes more than a depiction of a landscape — it is Miró’s meditation on memory, identity, and the strange beauty that emerges when the familiar is reframed through the lens of the surreal. Source: nga.gov/stories
A FANTASTICAL PAINTING OF MONT-ROIG In 1920, Miró left his hometown of Barcelona for Paris, where he hoped to advance his career as an artist. Though he spent much of his time in the French capital, Miró returned to Spain each summer to stay at his family’s farm in the small town of Mont-roig del Camp. Drawing inspiration from the striking Catalan countryside, Miró created this sprawling depiction of the farm between summer 1921 and winter 1922.

It is a dreamlike vehicle for nostalgia and memory, at once universal and highly specific. provide even more food for the children in their community. Their hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. “The group of women from the community are warriors — women with great courage, enthusiasm, and a spirit of service,” said Fernando, a Convoy of Hope agriculture technician in Nicaragua. “We have often seen them give up their time to help other people. We are so grateful to these sisters for their great contribution.” This spirit of service has become central to their identity as they continue to grow food not just for their families, but for their entire community. For the Warrior Women, agriculture has become more than just planting seeds — it has become a source of empowerment and dignity. “This work that we have done supporting the Agriculture program has brought us other experiences,” they said. “Agriculture is not just a job for men. Now we feel empowered to produce our own food.” With gratitude for the support and training they’ve received, they remain determined to keep learning and to share their knowledge with others. “We are grateful to all of Convoy of Hope, especially to the facilitators. We believe that they have given us the opportunity to learn, and that is why we now have the experiences to continue improving our lives, our family, and our society.”

The Warrior Women’s journey has been marked by both challenges and triumphs. Along the way, they discovered new ways to use what they already had. Recently, they learned to make compost from harvest remains, mixing cornstalks, banana leaves, and dry leaves to enrich their soil. They also took a risk by planting yellow corn for the first time, initially doubting the quality of the seeds. But when harvest season arrived, their doubts turned into joy — the corn flourished, and they were able to share it with the local school feeding program. “With the corn produced, we cooked it and shared it with the children in the cafeteria. It was so delicious that the children asked us for more corn,” they said. Encouraged by this success, the women are now eager to expand their gardens and
Look out world — here come the Warrior Women. In Nicaragua, five courageous and enthusiastic women — Andria, Ana,
Nohemi, Belkis, and another Ana — are learning, growing, and paving the way for others to flourish in agriculture. For nearly 10 months, they have partnered with Convoy of Hope to learn improved farming practices, put them into action, and then pass on their knowledge to other women. Their goal is simple yet powerful: to empower more families to grow their own food, even on small plots of land. “As a group, we must share what we have learned with other women so that they, too, can have their own garden where they can grow some vegetables,” they said. “There is no need to have a large area of land to be able to grow food. It can be done from a small area.”

ames J. Maiwurm is no stranger to high-stakes decision- making. As Chairman Emeritus of one of the world’s largest global law firms, and former CEO of Kaiser Group International, Maiwurm has spent decades at the helm of complex negotiations, international transactions, and corporate governance. But in his gripping debut novel, Inheritance of Crises and Dysfunction , he turns his lens inward— toward the emotional and political fractures that define both nations and individuals. Set against the backdrop of a deeply divided America and a world reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, the novel follows Salt Pepper, a retired lawyer drawn back into the corridors of power by an old friend poised to become Secretary of State. What begins as a reluctant return to service becomes a sweeping journey through diplomatic circles in Washington, London, Berlin, and Prague. Salt must navigate not only geopolitical unrest, but also the personal grief of losing his wife, the disorientation of retirement, and the quiet ache of irrelevance. Maiwurm’s storytelling is rich with insight—layering political thriller with psychological depth. reconciliation. Through Salt’s eyes, readers confront the global perception of a faltering America, the rise of extremism, and the moral imperative to seek common ground. What makes Inheritance of Crises and Dysfunction especially resonant is its authenticity. Maiwurm draws from a lifetime of experience in law, diplomacy, and executive leadership. His understanding of international relations and domestic policy is matched by a deep empathy for the human condition. The result is a novel that feels both timely and timeless—a reflection of our fractured present and a call to rebuild with courage and compassion. Beyond the page, Maiwurm remains active in public service and nonprofit leadership. He’s served on the boards of community banks, government contractors, and environmental joint ventures, and continues to advocate for ethical governance and civic engagement. His writing, like his career, is rooted in integrity, clarity, and a belief in the power of thoughtful dialogue. For readers of political fiction, historical thrillers, and character-driven narratives, Inheritance of Crises and Dysfunction offers more than suspense—it offers perspective. It’s a story for anyone who’s ever wondered what happens when the personal and political collide, and whether redemption is still possible in a world on edge.

BARRY GOLD Science, Storytelling, and the Fight Against Addiction: Barry I. Gold’s Unflinching Look at the Opioid Crisis in We’re Overdosed
arry I. Gold is not just an author—he’s a scientist, a storyteller, and a fierce advocate for public health reform. In
his groundbreaking book We’re Overdosed , Gold brings decades of pharmacological expertise to bear on one of the most urgent issues of our time: the global opioid epidemic. With clarity, compassion, and a deep understanding of both biology and policy, he offers readers a sobering yet hopeful roadmap for change. A retired pharmacologist with a Ph.D. from Boston University and postdoctoral training at Yale School of Medicine, Gold spent his career in academic medicine and international pharmaceutical development. His scientific background gives We’re Overdosed its backbone, tracing the evolution of opioids from ancient opium to modern synthetic painkillers. But it’s his ability to translate complex science into accessible insight that makes the book so impactful.
14 EC Talk | September 2025
Gold explores how opioids interact with the human body, why some individuals are more vulnerable to addiction, and how gaps in legislation and healthcare systems allowed the crisis to spiral. He critiques pharmaceutical companies, regulatory failures, and cultural blind spots—while also emphasizing the human cost of addiction: fractured families, lost lives, and communities in crisis. What sets We’re Overdosed apart is its balance of rigor and empathy. Gold doesn’t just present data—he tells stories. Through case examples and personal reflections, he highlights the emotional toll of addiction and the urgent need for compassionate, evidence- “Barry Gold manages to explain the evolution of opioids and the pharmaceutical industry’s role without losing the human side of the story.” based treatment. His call to action includes strengthening federal legislation, expanding therapeutic communities, and reframing addiction as a medical condition rather than a moral failing. Reader reviews praise the book’s clarity and relevance. One noted, “Barry Gold manages to explain the evolution of opioids and the pharmaceutical industry’s role without losing the human side of the story.” Another shared, “I felt a surge of hope with the possible treatments suggested; it made me realize that progress is still possible.” Beyond his scientific and literary contributions, Gold is a father, a baker, and a woodworker—proof that advocacy can be grounded in everyday life. He lives in northern New Jersey, where he continues to write and speak on issues of health, ethics, and social responsibility. We’re Overdosed is more than a book— it’s a wake-up call. Through it, Barry I. Gold challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths, rethink public policy, and join the fight for a healthier, more compassionate future.

Engineering Ideas, Challenging Futures:
arl H. Mitchell doesn’t just write fiction— he builds it. With a background in electrical engineering and a 35-year career
at IBM as an engineer, programmer, and manager, Mitchell brings precision, curiosity, and a systems- level view to every page he writes. His novels are more than stories; they’re speculative blueprints for a world on the brink of transformation. Mitchell’s debut novel, Sundown: Engineering Gives the Devil a Sunburn , is a near- future police procedural that blends thriller, mystery, espionage, and dystopian elements with a dash of science fiction. Set in a world grappling with moral decay and technological overreach, the book follows determined protagonists as they confront corruption and chaos with grit and integrity. It’s the first in a planned trilogy titled Derailing Dystopia , and it sets the tone for Mitchell’s signature style: fast-paced, intellectually engaging, and morally grounded.

Carl H. Mitchell’s Bold Vision for Tomorrow’s World
16 EC Talk | September 2025
His second novel, Friendship City: Hanging by a Thread , continues this trajectory, exploring themes of global cooperation, bioengineering, and the fragile balance between progress and ethics. Mitchell’s work challenges readers to consider what kind of future we’re building—and whether we’re ready to live in it. Born in California and raised in Wisconsin and Florida, Mitchell earned his degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. Today, he lives with his wife Maryann in Hillsborough, New Jersey, and spends winters in Tarpon Springs, Florida. When he’s not writing, “I write to challenge readers,” Mitchell says.“To make them think about what’s coming—and what we can do to shape it.” he’s tending to his koi—more than a hundred of them—which he jokingly admits “own him” thanks to their demanding upkeep. Mitchell’s literary influences are as eclectic as his career path. Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame , Isaac Asimov’s The End of Eternity , and Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea were formative reads that shaped his love for layered storytelling and philosophical depth. His writing reflects that blend of classic narrative and futuristic inquiry, always aiming to entertain while provoking thought. “I write to challenge readers,” Mitchell says. “To make them think about what’s coming— and what we can do to shape it.” With each book, Carl H. Mitchell invites us to look ahead with eyes wide open. His stories are warnings, yes—but also invitations to imagine better outcomes. n a world often obsessed with answers, Vane Lashua dares to ask better questions. His book You , published by Author’s Tranquility Press, is not a traditional memoir, nor merely a collection of poems—it’s a kaleidoscopic meditation on the human experience. With over five decades of writing behind him, Lashua invites readers into a deeply personal yet universally resonant exploration of love, loss, memory, and the quiet revelations tucked inside everyday life. You unfolds across 75+ chapters of poetic and prose-rich reflections, each one a window into Lashua’s richly lived life. From childhood memories and failed relationships to patriotism, politics, and the rhythm of a bicycle race, the book is a masterful blend of whimsy and profundity. In one piece, he deconstructs gravity as a metaphor for love; in another, he offers a dry-witted flowchart of job hunting and existential dread. The result is a literary mosaic that feels less like a lecture and more like a whispered confession shared over coffee.

His most recent work, Trends Due to Climate Change: A Witness to the Vanishing Seasons , is a stunning archive of fifty years of handwritten observations from his Pennsylvania backyard. What began in the 1980s as a modest nature log—tracking daffodil blooms, bird migrations, and frost dates— evolved into one of the most intimate records of climate change in suburban America. With no scientific instruments beyond a pen and calendar, Buse documents the subtle but undeniable shifts in seasonal rhythms, offering readers a visceral understanding of environmental transformation.

In her captivating book Four-Legged Heroes: The Mama Magina Books , Pittman turns her attention to the unsung bravery of animals—particularly the loyal, resilient dogs whose stories have shaped history and touched hearts across generations. Pittman presents this tale in a vivid, “witnessed” style that immerses readers in the icy urgency of the moment.
