At Levine Academy electronic mail and telephone voice mail are efficient and valuable tools. They are also property of the school. In short, neither of these systems is considered to be confidential, nor should they be used to meet an employee's own personal needs. The rule of thumb when it comes to e-mail and voice mail is that employees should not say or write anything they would not want someone other than the intended receiver to hear or read. Remember that even when an e-mail or voice mail message has been deleted from a location, it is still possible to retrieve and read that message. Levine Academy reserves the right to access and read any and all information contained in computers, computer files, e-mail messages, or voice mail messages. Employees should have no expectation of privacy with regard to these communications. Employees will be in violation of the school’s discrimination and harassment policy if they send, receive, or access discriminatory, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate e-mails or voice mails.
System and Data Security
Levine Academy has established security policies to protect its computer environments. All employees granted access to the computers used by the school to conduct its business must be aware of and comply with these security standards and controls. Contact the System Administrator for the specific guidelines. Most software used in Levine Academy’s computer systems is subject to licensing agreements that govern its use. The use of unlicensed proprietary software and the misuse of licensed software are strictly prohibited. Computer security violations are a serious matter. Failure to follow the guidelines detailed in this policy will result in corrective action and/or termination of employment and possible legal action.
Password Security
Individual employee and student passwords and logins are required to operate computers and some of their programs. These passwords and logins are to be kept confidential and may not be shared with others. It is against school policy for an employee or student to let anyone else use their login or password for the network, e- mail or any other system. The only exception is on rare occasions when a member of the IT staff may need the login or password to access or troubleshoot a software or system problem.
Internet Access and Use
Internet use, on the school’s time, is authorized to conduct school business only. Internet use brings the possibility of breaches to the security of confidential school information. Internet use also creates the possibility of contamination to our system via viruses or spyware. Spyware allows unauthorized people, outside the school, potential access to school passwords and other confidential information. Unauthorized access or “hacking” into the school’s network or systems or misuse of these Web pages will result in corrective action, up to and including expulsion for students, termination for employees and possible legal action. Email messages, Internet history and cookies, voicemail messages, documents created and stored on Levine Academy computers or Networks are the property of Levine Academy. Levine Academy reserves the right to access and monitor all files and messages on its systems.
Company Owns Equipment and Email
Keep in mind that Levine Academy owns any information within the Levine Academy network, hardware, communication sent via email or information stored on company equipment. Administrative staff members only have the right to access any material in your email or on your computer at any time. Approved authorization must be granted by the Head of School prior to accessing these things on a teacher’s or administrator’s computer. Please do not consider your electronic communication, storage or access to be private if it is created or stored on
