Training and Professional Development

Levine Academy is committed to providing career and professional development opportunities to assist both academic and general staff to meet their personal, academic and/or professional needs in ways that are consistent with the objectives of the school. The principal aims are to develop skills and knowledge, optimize the quality of working life, and work towards excellence by supporting existing strengths and maximizing the potential contribution of all members of the staff. Our accrediting institution, AdvancED, may also require that all professional personnel, including teachers and academic administrators, earn credits or clock hours of professional development activities such as workshops, seminars and conferences and other training activities. The Principal/Director will have this updated information each school year. The overall responsibility for career planning rests with the individual. However, supervisors and department heads also have a vital role to play in career coaching and mentoring and in facilitating the professional development of their staff. Professional development planning, and the budget to meet planned requirements within available resources, must be an integral part of the school’s business planning processes. Each year, as part of the annual performance review cycle, individuals and their supervisors are expected to identify professional developmental opportunities. Together they should plan for this development using internal mentoring, outside developmental seminars or through school sponsored learning opportunities. Authorization of payment for the cost of outside seminars, consultants, materials and other developmental related costs must be approved, in advance and in writing, by the employee’s supervisor. This authorization and related expense receipts and/or invoices must be submitted to the Business Office for payment. Employees who are authorized to attend seminars or conferences under this policy will continue to receive their normal pay. Employees should submit a copy of any certificates received to Human Resources for inclusion in their personnel file.

Educational Assistance

The school will consider partially underwriting one’s study at colleges and universities in the Dallas area. Employees who receive a grade of “B” or higher may be reimbursed $100 per course, approved by the Head of School. If the course taken has a direct relevance to one’s current teaching assignments or position responsibilities, in the judgment of the Head of School, the reimbursed amount may be higher, depending on the school’s available professional development resources. To receive this reimbursement, employees must obtain advance approval from their supervisor and submit a transcript with the request for reimbursement to the business office at the end of the semester.
