Each employee is expected to obey safety rules and exercise caution and common sense in all work activities. Employees must immediately report any unsafe conditions to their supervisor. Employees who violate safety standards, cause hazardous or dangerous situations, or fail to report, or where appropriate, remedy such situations, may be subject to disciplinary action including termination of employment.
In the case of an accident that results in injury, regardless of how insignificant the injury may appear, employees should notify their supervisor or Human Resources.
Inclement Weather / Emergency Closings
Circumstances that may require emergency closing of the school include inclement weather, natural disaster, fire, and utility failure, local or regional public emergency or other forced evacuation. The Head of School is responsible for making the final decision to close the school. Once this decision is made the Director of Communications will deliver a message via the school’s mass texting service to all employees and families. In the case of crisis, the school’s crisis management procedures will be followed. Status of the closing and information about reopening will be communicated via mass texting and email, and Levine Academy’s Website.
EMERGENCY DRILLS CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Regular emergency drills are required by state law and local ordinance and are an important safety precaution at Levine Academy. Evacuation procedure maps are located in each classroom and are also strategically placed throughout the facility as a reference for students, school employees and visitors. Regular drills are an important part of preparing for the possibility of a fire, tornado or other emergency at the school. These drills help prepare and educate students and staff alike so that everyone will know what to do and where to go in the case of a real emergency. State or local law requires that fire drills be conducted regularly during the school year and that records of these drills be kept by school administration. Emergency drills may be announced in advance or they may be unannounced. In either case, teachers, administrators and staff should follow school procedures to evacuate the building and/or relocate all building occupants to safe areas. Teachers are required to take their class rosters with them during any emergency drill for the purpose of taking roll and ensuring that all children are with the class.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN
Ann and Nate Levine Academy takes its responsibility to the community seriously. We have developed a crisis management plan that will be instituted should any crisis related to military action or terrorist activity or any other significant emergency occur during the school day. Responses to such activities depend upon two key variables; 1) the nature of the act itself and 2) the amount of warning time involved.
Role of the Incident Commander
The Head of School serves as the Incident Commander. In the absence of the Head of School, the K8 Principal will serve as Incident Commander. The Commander shall direct the school’s response during a time of crisis. Responsibilities include overseeing the daily life of the school, chairing all meetings of the crisis team, keeping the Information Center updated, chairing the evaluation process, and submitting final reports to the Crisis Team.
