COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
PSYCHOLOGY Courses under this designation provide the essential scientific and theoretical data base for advanced graduate study and research in clinical psychology. PSY 502 STATISTICS (3) Concepts and techniques involved in the analysis and interpretation of clinical and research data. Lecture and laboratory covering descriptive and inferential statistics. Major topics will include correlation and regression, tests of signifi cance and introduction to analysis of variance. Both parametric and non parametric approaches will be covered. Instruction assumes undergraduate background in statistics. (Required.) PSY 511 PSYCHOLOGY OF LEARNING (3 or 4) An advanced study of the principles of learning with varying emphases on classical, instrumental and cognitive processes. Attention will be given to current methodological research issues and empirical findings in learning. (Required.) PSY 512 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (3) Problems and theories of the person in the social context, including person perception, interpersonal relations, role formation and differentiation, attitude formation, maintenance, and change. (Required.) PSY 537 DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 or 4) Concepts and processes involved in the understanding of the psychological development of the person from infancy through adolescence. Major theoreti cal systems relevant to Developmental Psychology are examined with em phasis upon the study of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor changes man ifested in childhood and adolescence. (Required.) PSY 541 MEASUREMENT AND ASSESSMENT I (3 or 4) The first in a sequence of courses directed toward competence in administra tion, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests. The course involves a survey of basic concepts and principles of psychological measurement, includ ing factors influencing validity and reliability. Emphasis is placed on the Stanford-Binet and Wechsler scales and assessment of intellectual functioning. (Required.) PSY 542 MEASUREMENT AND ASSESSMENT II (3 or 4) Clinical interpretation of Wechsler scales with an introduction to learning disabilities and neuropsychological screening. Use of objective personality instruments with emphasis upon the MMPI. Introduction to more structured projective instruments such as the TAT and Sentence Completion. (Required.)
