LABORATORY COURSES IN PSYCHOTHERAPY This series of elective courses is designed to effect a working integration of conceptual and experimental aspects of psychotherapy. Each course includes both classroom lectures and supervised clinical experience within the psychotherapy model followed in the specific course. Completion of PSY 603 and PSY 690 is required before enrollment in these courses is permitted.
PLB 605 BEHAVIOR THERAPY (3)
The observation, assessment, and modification of human behavior using a variety of learning models. The strengths and limitations of behavioral psy chology will be examined. Prerequisite: PSY 511 and permission of instructor. (Elective.)
PLB 613 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH THE ADOLESCENT (3)
Techniques and problems in psychotherapy with adolescents. Special attention is focused on the implications of developmental processes of adolescence on treatment approaches. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. (Elective.)
PLB 631 PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY I (3)
An in-depth study of the process of therapy giving special attention to the concepts of transference, countertransference, resistance, and interpretation. Prerequisite: PSY 552 and permission of instructor. Enrollment must be planned for both PLB 631 and PLB 632. (Elective.) PLB 632 PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY II (3) Continuation of PLB 631. Prerequisites: PLB 631 and permission of the instructor. (Elective.) PLB 635 PSYCHOLOGY OF EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN: ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION STRATEGIES (3) Methods used by psychologists and school specialists in the assessment and remediation of learning problems. State laws relating to placement of children and youth in special programs. Prerequisites: PSY 541, PSY 542, and concurrent enrollment in a school psychology practicum. (Elective.)
PLB 641 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH GROUPS (3)
Varied theoretical and process models for group intervention are examined. Experiential learning in the leader and client roles is incorporated in the course. (Elective.)
