CASE STUDY
Karl , 36, and his wife Emily , a self- employed dog groomer, have purchased a four bedroom home at Beuley View, in Wouldham, with support from the Home Reach scheme. With their seven-year-old twin boys sharing a room, the couple were fast outgrowing their two bedroom terrace rental in Meopham. Karl, a car salesman, says, “We wanted the next home we settled into to be our forever home. With the boys growing up, we knew we needed a house big enough to give them separate bedrooms and so we began searching for a three bedroom house.” They almost put a deposit down on a three bedroom house, but it became clear that they would struggle to afford the mortgage. Emily recalls, “After looking for a home for nearly a year we started to feel really disheartened. We felt the only way we could afford the house we wanted was to continue saving and try to increase our income – but that’s when we got an email from Bovis Homes introducing us to the Home Reach scheme.” Home Reach is a Shared Ownership scheme that allows buyers to purchase a share of their home and pay rent on the remaining portion. Karl explains that while they had previously considered Shared Ownership, they always felt the homes on offer were too small. Karl admits, “From our brief research we’d assumed it was mostly available on apartments.” However, when they found a four bedroom detached house at Beuley View through Home Reach, it couldn’t have been more perfect – it fell within budget and was in their ideal location. The couple called the Beuley View sales team, who explained the Home Reach scheme and passed their application on. A Shared Ownership assessment was then completed, and they were approved to purchase their dream home. Karl was so impressed with the service that he has already recommended the scheme to a colleague. “The spaciousness of the house drew us in,” says Karl. “The kitchen and dining area is almost as big as the entire downstairs oor of our previous home! The boys love their new bedrooms and there’s space for a study. The couple intend to staircase, increasing their share, with the goal of eventually owning their four bedroom forever home outright.
