Unlike many seaside towns, which can feel geared towards tourists, Shoreham has remained a working town and port and, as such, has a more relaxed vibe. Its compact size means you can easily access all it has to offer by foot, and where better to start than the beach? Backed by the Local Nature Reserve, the shingle beach is uncrowded, with views across the channel and Shoreham Fort – free to visit – at its eastern end. There are plenty of opportunities for water-based fun here. Paddleboarding and kayaking are popular, along with windsurfing and kite surfing. There is also a designated sea swimming zone from May to September, but you will see the hardiest sea swimmers taking to the water all year round! Sea fishing at the harbour is also a popular local pastime, and permitted 24 hours a day. Local fish include mackerel, bass and plaice. Sussex Fishing offers a deep water fishing experience in addition to trips to the Rampion Wind Farm which delivers electricity to almost half the homes in Sussex!

Shoreham-by-Sea, often shortened to Shoreham, is a coastal town and port in West Sussex, nestled between the South Downs and the English Channel. With Brighton to the east and Worthing to the west, the popular town is central to the urban development along this picturesque Sussex coastline. Shoreham’s history dates back over a thousand years as a centre for trade in the 10th century thanks to the River Adur. The town later became known for shipbuilding. Seaside tourism and residential development followed later, with the arrival of the railway. Home to the oldest licensed air eld in the UK, Shoreham also played its role in both world wars. Shoreham-by-Sea railway station offers speedy connections to major towns along the south coast and into London Victoria, via Gatwick, which takes around 1 hour 15 minutes.
