This is awarded to the player who had the lowest score on the previous hole. • Fairway: The short, neatly mowed area that runs from the tee box to the green. This is where you want your ball to land! • Rough: The longer grass on either side of the fairway. • The Green: The very short-mowed area where the hole and flagstick are located. This is where you putt. • Flagstick: The stick with a flag on it that is placed in the hole. • Water Hazard: An area of water on the course. • Red Markers: A lateral water hazard that runs alongside the line of play. • Yellow Markers: A regular water hazard that
crosses the line of play. • Dropping the Ball: The process of reintroducing a ball back into play after taking a penalty or relief. • Out of Bounds (OB): The area outside the course’s boundaries. If your ball lands here, you must re-hit your shot and take a one-shot penalty. • Penalty: A one-shot penalty is an extra stroke added to your score. • Bunkers (Sand Traps): Areas filled with sand, designed as obstacles. • Greenside Bunkers: Bunkers located close to the green. • Fairway Bunkers: Bunkers located on the fairway, a distance from the green. • Grounding Your Club: Touching the ground with your club. In a bunker, this is not allowed before your swing. • Ground Under Repair (GUR): An area on the course being maintained. You get free relief if your ball lands here. • Free Relief: When you can move your ball from a spot without taking a penalty.
