KEY SCHOOL DATES
This week things have definitely started to feel very festive at Waldegrave. Following a wonderful Carol Concert at St Augustine’s Church last Friday, the Christmas cheer is definitely spreading. Cucina did a wonderful Christmas lunch in the canteen and it was lovely to see students enjoying a traditional lunch, pulling crackers and singing along to all the Christmas music.

Yesterday’s Christmas Jumper Day brought much joy to school and raised vital funds for Save the Children. You can still donate here. This afternoon we are ending the week with a performance by the Globe Players of A Christmas Carol for Year 10 students. We have much to look forward to next week with our Winter Festival on Monday evening and our school pantomime on Thursday before we finish at 12.30pm. On Monday our Year 12 Psychology students attended the Psychology in Action Conference at the Emmanuel Centre in Victoria. On Wednesday some of Year 9 students led a French workshop at St James’ Primary School, using their excellent language skills to retell the story of The Hungry caterpillar to Year 2 pupils. I would like to congratulate our fantastic cricketers, both our U13 and our U15 teams won the Borough Indoor Cricket tournament and have qualified to progress through to the regional competition in the new year. Next week we will be publishing the latest edition of the Waldegrave Magazine so there will be no bulletin next week. I hope that everyone has a wonderful festive break and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday 8 January.

JOINING THE PTA To get in contact with our PTA about joining the team please click below.
This is the time of year parents and carers may be buying devices that access the internet for their children and so we are sharing a very helpful resource from the Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Partnership. Setting up parental controls before giving the devices to children saves lots of time and potential conflict later. The QR codes on the attached resource will take you to clear instructions for setting controls on each type of device. Additionally, as during holidays young people may have fewer demands on their time and therefore be allowed more screen time, we have also attached a parent checklist from Childnet that includes lots of sources of advice and guidance for young people and their parents around online safety and digital wellbeing.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12
Last Friday A Level Art and Photography students had the amazing opportunity to attend a series of lectures by an exciting range of artists to learn about the development of their work and their creative process at the Emmanuel Centre in London. Students enjoyed the experience and we look forward to seeing how they have been inspired in upcoming coursework. Also last Friday, a number of Year 12 students took part in the Carol Service at St. Augustine’s Church. The students singing was uplifting and the congregation really enjoyed joining in the festive singing. Well done to all who took part, whether as a soloist, reader, musician or member of the choir. On Monday, Year 12 Psychology students attended the annual Psychology in Action conference in London. In an inspiring programme, leading Psychologists and academics addressed a range of psychological issues and outlined their cutting-edge research, including that on the purpose of sleep, anthropomorphism, the experience of memory, the irrational brain and why we have a hard time trusting driverless cars. It was a unique opportunity for students to take themselves beyond the A Level specification and immerse themselves in the issues that are interesting psychologists today. On Wednesday it was our school Christmas lunch. It was so lovely to see our sixth formers in the Christmas spirit listening to Christmas songs and enjoying a Christmas dinner. Yesterday, students had the opportunity to wear their Christmas jumpers and they all looked wonderful. That once again added a festive note amongst our students. Students and their families were kindly requested to make a donation either via ParentPay or our JustGiving page, with all proceeds going to Save the Children. Huge thanks to all who have contributed towards this worthy cause. There is still time for you to make a dona- tion, if you are able to do so. Well done to Ameiyah J in 12RFG who has achieved a Distinction in her Grade 8 Guitar exam! The last day for Year 12 will be Wednesday 20 December. This will be a full day and students will be expected to attend all lessons. We hope you all have a lovely Christmas break and a well deserved rest.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a book written in the perspective of a 15 year old boy named Charlie, who is entering a new nerving year of highschool. It follows the life of him and his friends and the challenges that they face, finding their true selves in the process.
What I found most powerful was hearing about the experiences of the different characters as they were growing up.
