A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

Last Friday, a number of Year 8 students took part in the Carol Service at St. Augustine’s Church. The students singing was uplifting and the congregation really enjoyed joining in the festive singing. Well done to all who took part, whether as a soloist, reader, musician or member of the choir. This week was an especially festive one as students from Year 8 celebrated Christmas Jumper Day with some holiday spirit. Students thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas dinners as there was much merriment on display in the canteen on Thursday. The purpose of this event was to raise money for Save The Children, if you would like to support our fundraiser please click here to donate. On Wednesday we had our Celebration Assembly where we were able to celebrate a number of students in Year 8 for their successes at school. Students are celebrated in departments and their tutor groups. A range of students won awards based around our three key principles at Waldegrave - Enjoy, Achieve and Empower. We know that it is crucial for students to be recognised for their efforts both inside and outside the classroom. The assembly allowed us the chance to also applaud our bake off competitors, Annie performers, musical acts and sporting stars. Our epraise results were also collated and we were able to see that the Eliot forms were too strong for the other houses. Seacole, Pankhurst and Franklin followed respectively. A special mention should go out to 8EMU for topping the table again, followed by 8SGZ and 8EFR. Well done to Nell, Immy and Ella for their own sublime individual efforts. Leading into the final week we have our Winter Festival on Monday night. It is always an enjoyable night to see so many talented Waldegrave students perform their pieces. If you haven’t already, buy your tickets now by clicking here. School will finish on Thursday 21 December at 12.30pm, with a return on Monday 8 January. I hope the upcoming holidays provide all our students and parents with an enjoyable restful break.
