How Lion Became Known as King of the Jungle by: Shoshana Rosson, 3 grade rd Long, long ago lions were not known as the king of all the animals. They were the least respected.
One day, Lion was walking around Savannah. It was scorching hot in the desert and it almost never rained. Lion walked around feeling blue because he was not respected so he never got to have any food and he had no friends. Lion had tried standing up to himself. “Please I am an animal like you so please respect me.” Lion said. “No you are a little stupid and small animal.” snickered the Zebra. “Really? I am small?” roared Lion. He puffed out his chest. “Yes.” said Elephant. “Roar!” Lion said with anger. No matter what Lion did he was always treated like he was gross. He begged for respect and couldn’t get it. Later that day, he even heard Gazelle and Hippo gossiping about him. “He is weird.” they said. Lion was a raging fire but he also felt really sad. He had no clue what he could do to make the animals respect him and maybe even fear him. Then, one day Lion was walking around Savannah and on the ground he found a glass bottle. In the glass bottle there was some sand. Not ordinary sand. The sand looked like pure gold. “This is no ordinary sand,” Lion realized. “I must go show the rest of the animals.” Afterwards, Lion went to the rest of the animals and showed them the sand. The animals just laughed and said, “Thats just the ordinary sand, you fool.” The animals gathered together. Giraffe said “Lion loves his sand so we should steal it from him.” “Great idea” said Hippo. They chased Lion through the desert trying to steal his sand. Lion ran as fast lightning. The buzzing bees tried to sting him as he went. Zap, zap, zap they went. As he ran the sand tickled his toes. The animals chased him so far that the animals could not keep up with him anymore. After that, when Lion was sure he lost them he sat down to rest by a rock and wept. He turned his attention to the sand. He knew something was special about the sand. Still holding the sand, Lion said, “If only they would respect and fear me.” All of a sudden, the sand started to glow. Smash went the sand as he dropped it in surprise. He ran
back to the animals and was flabbergasted by what he saw. All the animals were bowing down to him. He was astonished when the animals said, “Welcome King of the Jungle.” Lion was beaming from ear to ear because he knew that the magic of the sand had worked. He had made a wish using the magic sand. That’s how Lion became King of the Jungle.
