Perseverance

Through the ages, the world has seen us with disdain You look down at us as if we are a subhuman bloodstain Yet we never cower, never fear, For still, we persevere. The words you use cut like knives You strive to destroy our very lives Your cold glares cut into our soul Your aim to forever be in in control You send us out, you send us away We worry for the strike that may come any day Yet, the murky water shall clear For still, we persevere Then, a knock at the door-- death With its fingers cold and ever icy breath Your symbols painted red with our blood Sickles of annihilations out to push us away with a thud Crystal splinters carpet the ground. As you beat my people down The ashes fresh the sky not clear Blackened pages flutter, as you watch us with a sneer Yet, here I stand This message for you You may cut us down, but we won’t go

You may break us, but still, our voices grow Through the dark, our voices you will hear For still, we persevere
