A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11

Last Friday, a number of Year 11 students took part in the Carol Service at St. Augustine’s Church. The students singing was uplifting and the congregation really enjoyed joining in the festive singing. Well done to all who took part, whether as a soloist, reader, musician or member of the choir. This week things continued to get festive at Waldegrave. On Wednesday, Year 11 had their Christmas lunch and it was really lovely seeing the students enjoying a delicious Christmas lunch prepared by the wonderful canteen staff. Yesterday, students had the opportunity to wear their Christmas jumpers and they all looked wonderful. That once again added a festive note amongst our students. Students and their families were kindly requested to make a donation either via ParentPay or our JustGiving page, with all proceeds going to Save the Children. Huge thanks to all who have contributed towards this worthy cause. There is still time for you to make a donation, if you are able to do so. Click here to donate. Well done to the House Captains for all their efforts planning, writing and supporting the Staff panto that will be performed in its premier next Thursday. Break a leg to all those involved! No epraise totals will be shared this week so that we don’t spoil the surprise regarding totals that are being declared next week in our celebration assembly. Next Wednesday we will be giving positive feedback to Year 11 via the end of term Celebration assembly. In which students efforts and achievements from throughout this term in lessons and also in tutor time are recognised. Along with a summary of charity events and epraise totals for this term as a tutor group and as individuals.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Tattooist of Auschwitz - Heather Morris “I tattooed her number on her left hand, and she tattooed her number in my heart,” The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a true story which follows a Slovakian Jew who was imprisoned in the concentration camp Auschwitz in 1942 and fell in love with a girl whose number he tattooed. It’s a true story which follows themes of love, survival and hope as an unforgettable love story unfolds in the midst of an atrocity. I found it to be an extremely emotive, thought provoking and inspiring story which stays with you long after you turn the last page. It’s a very gripping and deeply disturbing novel which encapsulates the horrors of the holocaust and simultaneously sheds a light of comfort and hope; even in the darkest most tragic times, love and hope prevails. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B, Year 11 student
