MARCH/APRIL 2025
Why These 4 Books Deserve a Spot on Your Shelf Today Read Between the Lines
Contracts, cases, and legal texts have long made up most of my reading list. But the books that have shaped my outlook on life, work, and success aren’t about law — they’re about mindset, resilience, and the power of perspective. Since March 2 is Read Across America Day, I wanted to share a few books that have left an indelible mark on my life and perhaps inspire you to pick up a new read. Let’s start with a classic that changed my way of thinking: “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. I first encountered this book at 35, and it was a game-changer. Until then, I hadn’t given much thought to the idea of our individual autonomy. It wasn’t until I picked up this book that I realized we are in complete control of our attitudes, visions, and, ultimately, our destinies. While it may sound cliche, life is what you make it. In his book, dating all the way back to 1937, Hill stresses the power of positive thinking and daily affirmations — concepts that were practically foreign at the time since the science of neuroplasticity was yet to be discovered. His timeless advice isn’t just about manifesting financial success but also personal aspirations and even everyday challenges. The book taught me to stop being my own worst enemy and start harnessing my thoughts as tools for growth. Hill’s book also led me to another transformative read: “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. I will admit I initially misunderstood the title — I honestly thought it was a parenting guide for dads and ignored it for years. But it turned out to be
one of the most practical and enlightening books about financial literacy and personal growth. Kiyosaki contrasts two philosophies: his biological “poor dad,” who focused on academic success and job security, and his friend’s entrepreneurial “rich dad,” who prioritized investments, passive income, and financial freedom. Kiyosaki’s lessons reshaped my understanding of assets, liabilities, and the importance of cash flow. He opened my eyes to the tax benefits of real estate investing and taught me how to think beyond a paycheck. Kiyosaki’s insights are endlessly invaluable for anyone trying to break free from the grind and achieve financial independence. More recently, I’ve been inspired by Robin Sharma’s “The 5 AM Club. ” I was pretty skeptical at first. Could waking up at 4:45 a.m. really transform my life? But once I committed to owning my mornings, everything shifted. Instead of my day being entirely spent either at work or surrounded by my ever-energetic daughters, I get time for myself and gain a whole new sense of control that fuels me throughout the day. Now, I prioritize my time wisely, whether it’s for work or spending quality moments with my kids. Lastly, I can’t help but recommend “Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage” by Alfred Lansing. This gripping account of Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic survival story is a testament to the human spirit. Stranded in the most inhospitable conditions imaginable, Shackleton and his crew defied the odds and made it home. The story reminds us that perseverance and leadership can overcome even the most impossible challenges. While vastly different, these books share a common thread: They inspire action. Whether mastering your mindset, redefining financial success, or learning from extraordinary tales of survival, each offers lessons that go far beyond the page. So, on this Read Across America Day, I challenge you to pick up a book that pushes you to grow. Who knows? It might just change your life.

Knead a Break?
10 Minutes of Massage Can Reset Your Day
Feeling tense? Life’s twists and turns can cause your stress levels to skyrocket, leading to various health problems. But relief may be easier and quicker than you think. According to recent studies, just 10 minutes of massage can work wonders on your mood, activating your body’s system for overcoming stress. A quick massage is like hitting the reset button on your day, turning your anxiety into a sense
of balance and calm. Let’s explore how you can transform tension into tranquility in just 10 minutes. Unknot and Unwind A short massage prompts your body to slow down. Your body responds strongly to touch, and the kneading motion of massages helps release tension. When stressed, our bodies naturally tense up, which can cause pain and discomfort. Massage can increase the elasticity of tissues, warm your muscles, and work to relax the nerves associated with stress. When your muscles and joints are at ease, your body produces feel-good hormones like serotonin. Dreamy Kneads When you can’t catch enough z’s, it significantly impacts your stress levels. Massages encourage deeper sleep by helping increase serotonin and melatonin, the sleep hormone. Direct pressure on muscles increases the production of comfy
hormones and reduces cortisol, the hormone responsible for anxiety. A quick rub down before bed can ease you into a calm state, coaxing you to drift off to dreamland. 10 Minutes to Bliss If you want to experience the stress- melting benefits of a short massage, you don’t need to book an appointment with a professional. You can give yourself several massages, like a shoulder massage, using circular motions on each side. If you’re facing a stress headache, glide your hands across your forehead, applying a small amount of pressure. Start at your ears and massage each side of your head with your fingertips. Do this several times and finish with a scalp massage. So, the next time you feel anxious, get comfortable and take a few minutes for a massage. These small moments of relaxation can roll you into the day more calm and balanced.
Accident-Free Adventures Spring Break Travel Tips for Open Road Safety
Spring break is the perfect time to take a well-deserved getaway, but as you pack your bags and plan your adventures, don’t forget to prioritize safety — especially if you’re hitting the road. These four precautions can ensure you enjoy your vacation without unnecessary stress or accidents. Always Stay Alert and Aware Whether you’re driving through a bustling city or exploring quiet, scenic routes, staying aware of your surroundings is crucial. Adjust your driving style to match the environment, and be prepared for unexpected road conditions or traffic patterns. If you’re traveling long distances with others who are licensed drivers, rotate driving duties to stay well-rested and alert. Avoid distractions like texting, eating, or adjusting the GPS while driving, as even the smallest distraction can lead to accidents. Pack the Not-So-Fun Essentials Traveling light is great, but there are items you shouldn’t leave behind. Bring your
driver’s license, health insurance card, and auto insurance information. If you’re traveling abroad, include your passport and check if your health insurance covers international medical care. Some planning now can save you significant headaches later if you find yourself needing roadside assistance or medical attention during your trip. Take Extra Precautions With Rentals Many travelers opt for bikes, scooters, or rental cars to explore their destinations. Before hitting the road, familiarize yourself with any rental equipment. Test the brakes, steering, and other controls on bikes or scooters in a safe, open area. If you’re renting a car, review its safety features and confirm your insurance policy provides adequate coverage. Practice Pedestrian Safety Spring break destinations often mean crowded sidewalks and busy intersections. If you plan to explore on foot, always use designated crosswalks and follow traffic
signals. Stay alert, especially in areas with heavy tourist traffic, where drivers may also be unfamiliar with the area. Accidents can happen even with the best precautions. If you or a loved one are injured while traveling, it’s essential to know your rights and seek legal guidance. Our experienced legal team is here to help you navigate the claim process and secure the compensation you deserve. Contact us for a consultation — we’re just a call away.

WITH THE FLIP OF A COIN Our Favorite Decision-Making Tool May Not Be as Fair as We Think
“Movies or bowling?” “Pizza or burgers?” Long before Rock, Paper, Scissors and Magic 8 Balls helped us make major life decisions, people dating all the way back to the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages were flipping coins to make hard choices or gamble. Coin Toss Origins The Romans used coin tossing to settle personal disputes, calling it “heads or ships.” The coins depicted Janus, the two-faced Roman god of doorways and change, on one side and the prow of a ship on the other side. In the Middle Ages, they called coin tossing “cross and pile,” a game of chance among children. What we know as “heads” was the cross, and “tails” was the pile. The Purpose of Flipping a Coin In theory, when people need to make a decision between two equally viable options, and they can’t reach a decision, tossing a coin is usually the “fair” way to decide — or is it? A 2023 study by the University of Amsterdam sheds light on how the time-honored decision-making tool may not be as unbiased as we think.
The ‘Randomness’ of a Coin Toss The study flipped more than 350,000 coins across 46 different currencies and found that a flipped coin returned to its starting position 50.8% of the time. So, if a coin starts at tails, it will likely land on tails. This test was based on a 2004 theory that argued coin tosses land as they start 51% of the time. What’s more alarming is that a 2009 study revealed that coin tosses are easily manipulated. How is that possible if coin tosses are supposed to be random? The study showed that with a few minutes of practice, the tosses could be manipulated with sleight-of-hand to land in favor of whoever makes the toss. Choose Your Tossers Wisely While debate continues over the fairness of a coin toss, there’s not enough evidence to sway arguing siblings or the NFL to shy away from continuing the tradition. But if you ever find yourself in a coin toss situation with someone, it might be wise to choose a neutral party to flip the coin for you!
