20 YEARS OF RIVERSIDE MECHANICAL LTD

A COMPLETE MECHANICAL INSTALLATION AT THE SHACKLETON MUSEUM IN ATHY COMPRISES A MAIN HEATING CENTRE AND CONTROLS ALONGSIDE WATER, GAS, HEATING, COOLING, VENTILATION AND WASTE SERVICES…

• Space heating services: From the main heating centre, low- temperature, low-pressure hot water is distributed throughout the building to serve the various systems with 80°C flow and 80°C return. The circuits include separate variable temperature systems for each floor. Within each space, the emitters comprise underfloor heating, standard radiators and multi-column architectural radiators. • Space cooling services: Local air conditioning units are supplied within the ground and first-floor extensions and served via roof-mounted condensers. • Ventilation services: All the exhibition spaces are served with a dedicated air-handling unit equipped with a thermal wheel and heat pump. The supply to each space shall be served with a resistive-element steam humidifier to control humidity levels. A dedicated heat recovery unit supplies fresh air requirements in the cinema and local extract fans are provided for each of the toilets and the café. The ventilation systems within the building are also equipped with automatic fire dampers where the ducts pass through the compartment lines. Fire dampers are controlled from a dedicated central panel in the second-floor office. • Automatic controls and energy monitoring: The building incorporates a full building energy management system with temperature control, humidity control and optimisation on all main plant to ensure energy efficiencies are maintained. All secondary metering is linked to the central system. The system is managed from the front- end PC located in the research room and a remote keypad located at the main ticket desk.

Riverside Mechanical delivers a pipeline to the polar expeditions of Ernest Shackleton

Dedicated to Ernest Shackleton, the new visitor experience will use the latest technology and its artefact collections to tell the story of his epic adventures, as well as highlighting the role of the great polar regions in climate change. A €6.7m redevelopment of the Shackleton Museum in Athy, set to reopen in July, is among standout current projects for Riverside Mechanical Ltd. The scope of works carried out by Riverside Mechanical include: • Main heating centre: Comprising a single-room, sealed gas-fired boiler complete with duty/standby heating circulating pumps for each floor and associated weather compensation controls. • Soil and waste systems: A gravity drainage system consisting of independent soil stacks in each wing. The stacks collect soil, waste and condensate drains at each level,

connecting into the builder’s upstands at ground-floor level and to the underground drainage system. Ground floor toilets and café connect directly to the underground drainage system. • Water services: Consisting of a boosted mains water system to serve the water storage in the attic space, potable water supplies in the break room and café, and humidifiers in the attic. A water storage tank in the attic feeds via a gravity system into the building’s sanitary accommodation along with a dedicated cold feed to the water heaters. Hot water generation is via point-of-use water heaters. • Gas services: A heating boiler is served via a gas line from a dedicated gas meter on the ground floor. The gas line includes a gas slam shut valve, associated gas and carbon monoxide sensors and an interface to the fire alarm.
