DUBLIN SIMON COMMUNITY

THE KILKENNY CONTRACTOR’S INSTALLATION INCLUDED AN AIR-SOURCE HEAT PUMP, GAS BOILERS, LOW-PRESSURE HOT WATER, BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, AIR-HANDLING UNITS, HEAT RECOVERY UNITS, AC AND VENTILATION AND DUCT- WORK, FITTINGS AND GRILLE BOXES… Murphy & Kelly delivers a pioneering project for Dublin Simon Community

A first-of-its-kind project in Ireland, Dublin Simon Community comprises a six-storey, 5,900sqm medical centre at Usher’s Island meeting the complex healthcare needs of people experiencing homelessness in the city. Partially funded by the Department of Housing and operated by the Dublin Simon Community, the 100-bed facility offers medical, treatment and recovery services including detox, rehabilitation, semi-acute medical procedures and blood-borne virus stabilisation. The project involved demolition of an existing two-storey building and an extension to create a new six-storey space featuring meeting, counselling, utility, laundry and storage rooms, bedrooms, a gymnasium, lobby, stair and lift cores, substation, switch room and other ancillary service areas.

Designed by Arup, the full mechanical services installation was delivered by Murphy & Kelly (Thomastown) Ltd. Its scope of works included an air-source heat pump, gas-fired boilers, low-pressure hot water (LPHW), and soils, waste, water and natural gas services. Also entailed were a building management system, air-handling units, heat recovery units, fire/smoke dampers and specialist anti-ligature areas, AC and ventilation including ductwork, fittings and grille boxes manufactured in-house at
