A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week we have all been working hard as the Christmas spirit has been slowly catching on here in Waldegrave. On Thursday we held our Christmas jumper day in order to raise money for Save The Children and everyone enjoyed the collection of jumpers around the school. If you would like to support our fundraiser please click here to donate. On Friday we welcomed The Globe Players who performed A Christmas Carol in the hall for all Year 10 students. This is one of the set texts in English so this will really help students with their learning and bring the story to life. Well done to the 14 sports leaders who helped run the Richmond Primary schools indoor athletics event that Waldegrave hosted on Friday 8 December. PE reported that these students were absolute stars and helped everything run brilliantly; they are a credit to the school. Congratulations to our U15 Cricket team who won the RSSP indoor tournament that took place at RTS school last Thursday. Our top epraise leaders this week in the final week of term go to Amalie W 10SDR and Verity F also in 10SDR! Does this mean 10SDR could get on the podium next week in the celebration assembly? We will have to wait to find out! Next week sees our last week of 2023 and the end to the Autumn term. We will have our celebration assembly and will be giving out awards for all subjects and tutor group awards for those who show the school values of Enjoy, Achieve and Empower. Coming up we have our Winter Festival on Monday 18 December. Our students have worked really hard to put on a wonderful show. If you haven’t already, buy your tickets now by clicking here. The students have all worked so hard over this long term and have really risen to the challenge of their new GCSE subjects and the increase in pace as they develop into serious students. I am really proud of how well the students have done, each one of them overcoming their own individual battles this term and I look forward to

seeing them come back in January refreshed and ready. I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and restful holiday.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Tattooist of Auschwitz - Heather Morris “I tattooed her number on her left hand, and she tattooed her number in my heart,” The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a true story which follows a Slovakian Jew who was imprisoned in the concentration camp Auschwitz in 1942 and fell in love with a girl whose number he tattooed. It’s a true story which follows themes of love, survival and hope as an unforgettable love story unfolds in the midst of an atrocity. I found it to be an extremely emotive, thought provoking and inspiring story which stays with you long after you turn the last page. It’s a very gripping and deeply disturbing novel which encapsulates the horrors of the holocaust and simultaneously sheds a light of comfort and hope; even in the darkest most tragic times, love and hope prevails. ~ Recommended by Marina M-B, Year 11 student
