LOOKING AHEAD TO HIGH SCHOOL The details below are intended for early planning and are not obligatory for junior high. Bentonville Schools will assist students and parents in mapping out their high school journey. Eighth-grade students and their parents will participate in a Student Success Plan meeting with a high school counselor or administrator. Core Pathways Required core courses can be taken with varying degrees of rigor. We encourage all students to take Pre-AP courses and at least one AP or IB course and at least one college course during high school. Some 35 pathways are offered with six in the core curricular areas, three in visual and performing arts and 26 in Career Studies and Ignite Professional Studies.
Elective Career Pathways Students may change pathways or explore more than one pathway, but a long-term commitment to at least one high school pursuit is advantageous to the subsequent college or career search. High school students are encouraged to focus on one or more pathways and complete three or more courses in a given pathway to show professional skills of perseverance, grit, commitment and a depth of study.
