The Best Springtime Destinations Where to Enjoy Our Local Scenery

With spring in full swing, I believe we should all take this opportunity to explore what our local landscape has to offer. With several amazing parks in the area, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy. If you’ve never been to any of our local state parks, then make sure you see these areas while the weather is just right! Known as Arkansas’ first state park, Petit Jean is adjacent to Lake Bailey and perfect for the nature fan in your family. In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps built trails, roads, bridges, cabins, and the Mather Lodge. The 24-room lodge overlooks Cedar Creek Canyon and boasts a restaurant, meeting rooms, and a gift shop. Near the lodge are 33 cabins located along the bluff with views of the canyon. In addition to the assortment of amenities, the park also has hiking trails that lead through forests, meadows, and over streams. You can also explore Seven Hollows, Bear Cave, the Grotto, the amazing 95-foot Cedar Falls, and so much more! PETIT JEAN STATE PARK

The first river designated in the United States, Buffalo River spans 153 miles and is home to the state’s only elk herd, making it perfect for the animal lover in your family. It’s an excellent area for camping, canoeing, and fishing! The only territories where camping is prohibited are Hemmed in Hollow Trail, Goat Trail (Big Bluff), private property, and within 100 feet of any trail or watercourse. However, camping is permitted on gravel and sand bars along the river. Additionally, the National Park Service has a number of developed campgrounds along the river for campers’ convenience. While not a national park, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art makes for a great day trip with your loved ones. This beautiful museum takes its name from the spring nearby and the bridge that was incorporated into the building. In the museum, you can see iconic pieces from America’s vibrant art community, including Andy Warhol’s “Coca- Cola” and Norman Rockwell’s “Rosie the Riveter.”While outside, you can enjoy guided hiking trails and ponds surrounding the building. It features a restaurant, business center, conference center, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, game room, and over 50 guest rooms. It also offers a beautiful view of Blue Mountain Lake and the Petit Jean River Valley. While these are the key places you need to check out, there is an assortment of other local parks to explore! If you have any favorite spots, let me know the next time you’re in the office! I’m always looking for new places to camp and enjoy what our natural landscape has to offer.
