human beings. Seeing the sale of a man to one master, his wife to another and his children to yet others, Abra ham Lincoln lifted his hand toward heaven and vowed, “God, if you will ever give me the power, I’ll strike a death blow to this hellish traffic.” The Lord heard his prayer and history re veals the rest. But how this story pedes into insignificance considering that once, in the long ago, the Son of God looked down upon man in his subjec tion and slavery to sin. H e made a similar declaration in t h e council chambers of heaven. God Almighty heard that cry and granted the peti tion. So the Lord Jesus Christ Himself paid the full price to redeem man, emancipating him from his sinful sla very and setting him free from Satan’s cruel bondage. No wonder Scripture says, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your saJtes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” * * * It's twice as hard to crush a half truth than it is a whole lie. * * * "THOU ART THE FINGER" Perhaps you have heard about the elderly deacon in a certain church who Was most faithful in attending prayer meeting. He was there every Wednes day night. Through the years people got to know exactly what he would pray. Somewhere, usually near the end of his prayer, he would declare, “O Lord, touch the unsaved with Thy finger.” The phrase almost got to be a point of amusement in the congrega tion. One prayer meeting night, how ever, as he was going on, he stopped abruptly, “Oh Lord, touch the un saved. . . Many of the people thought that perhaps he had gotten sick. So after the service was over they asked him why he hadn’t completed his fa miliar lines, 1Oh Lord , touch the un saved with Thy finger.” He responded, “I’ll tell you. Its not that I was ill but all of a sudden, something seemed to say to me, ‘Thou art the finger.’ ”
