ECS Group of Companies Norfolk Warehouse Roof Collapse Norfolk, VA

Stout & Caldwell Engineers & Surveyors Cooper University Health Care Moorestown, NJ

Specifically for the new Cooper University Health Center, the firm was engaged to provide comprehensive civil engineering, surveying and environmental services. This included concept and major site planning along with a variety of comprehensive surveying — boundary, topographic, ALTA, highway and utilities surveys. The nature of the finished site also required traffic engineering, auto-turn analysis and parking lot design. As part of the project scope, the team provided an environmental impact statement plus storm water management design and soil testing/analysis. Additional services included, ADA compli- ance and complete permitting. The plans were presented to the Moorestown Planning Board and received unanimous approval. Why was this particular job your favorite/most unusual? The Moorestown Mall is a landmark. Cooper University Health Care is one of most well- respected providers of health services, medical education & clinical research in the region. Stout & Caldwell could not have been more than proud to be part of the transformation – one that will have a profound impact for the community. Not only will the state-of-the-art multispecialty campus with nearly 100 exam rooms offer greater access to quality medical services, but it will also create employment opportunities and increase local and state revenue. Now open, the long-standing vacant site is thriving.

An unusual rain event caused ponding on the roof of a warehouse which led to a partial collapse. ECS was called in to assess the damage, verify the structural integrity of the building so that recover efforts could commence, investigate the root cause of the failure and provide structural design and roofing design services for the repair. ECS supported the client throughout this fast-paced project to keep the building as operational as possible during the repairs and bring them back to full service as soon as possible. Why: This project allowed ECS to showcase all of our talents. From a quick response on an emergency basis though forensic investigation, detailed structural and roofing design and construction support, several facets of our capabilities were highlighted on this project. While we certainly never wish a disaster on anyone, and we are thankful that no one was hurt with this one, ECS stands ready to help our clients overcome challenges when they do arise.
