2025 WALDMAN TEACHER EXCELLENCE AWARD
SMADAR TZUR
Established in 1988 to commemorate the 50th wedding anniversary of William and Sadie Waldman, the Waldman Teacher Excellence Award was created by their children, Andrea and Loren Weinstein, to honor their family’s enduring commitment to Jewish values and education. Each year, this meaningful award recognizes one outstanding educator whose work reflects the spirit and legacy of the Waldmans—and this year, that honor was given to Smadar Tzur, Middle School Hebrew and Judaic Studies teacher. This year, our school celebrates Smadar, an educator whose dedication and vision have shaped the lives of students for 18 years. Known for her unwavering commitment, Smadar makes every moment in the classroom meaningful, always asking how she can help her students grow. Her rapport with students is one of her greatest
strengths—they respect, admire, and feel seen by her, which inspires them to do their best. Colleagues recognize her as a dependable leader who not only supports her team but also drives innovation across the school. This year, Smadar launched a new elective initiative that brought student voices into Friday morning services through video projects and played a key role in guiding the student council to earn the prestigious “Sweepstakes Council” distinction. In Jewish tradition, the number 18 symbolizes Chai—life. Fittingly, in her 18th year, Smadar has breathed new life into her classroom, her department, and our community. She embodies the very best of education: passion, generosity, and an unwavering belief in her students.
