Italian Electric Motors
MOTOR REGULATION AND PERFORMANCES Electric motors must conform with MEPS (minimum energy performance standards). MEPS applies to 3 phase motors only (not single pahse), and ensures that a minimum level of energy efficiency is archived for 3 phase cage induction motors with an output from .73kW to 185kW (1hp to 250hp)
Motors must have the following efficiency percentage: 2.2kW (3hp) 84% —- 3kW (4hp) 86% —- 4kw (5.5hp) 87% —- 5.5kW (7.5hp) 88% — 7.5kW (10hp) 89% -- 11kW (15hp) 90%
RATING MOTORS All motors have 2 ratings: Nominal output: ie the potential kW the motor could develop Actual output: ie actual kW used on the machine it is attached to For example, using a standard 2.2kW (3hp) motor on a single phase, 10amp circuit:
240V x 10amp = 2400 Watt Efficiency rating from above information is 84% 2400W x .84 = 2016 watt 2016 watt divided by 745 (constant number) = 2.7hp 2.7hp = 2kw
In this case, actual kw rating is 2kw (2.7hp), although the same motor may have enough excess capacity to run to be able at (lets say) 2.5kw, which is the nominal rating Most distributors of product declare nominal rating as opposed to actual rating.
