International Study at Farlington 2025
OUTSTANDING EAL LANGUAGE RESULTS
Farlington School takes pride in the exceptional English results achieved by our international students. By tailoring the EAL (English as an Additional Language) curriculum to meet each student's individual proficiency level, we ensure they are entered for the most appropriate examinations to support their success.
International students at Farlington may sit the Edexcel International GCSE in English as a Second Language. Results in this qualification are consistently outstanding. Last year, all 10 students in the cohort passed their exams, with every student achieving an impressive grade 9 in the speaking component. In other parts of the examination, all students achieved strong pass grades, with positive Value Added scores - some as high as 5 grades above their national expected outcomes. The average Value Added score was almost 3 grades above national expected outcomes.

OUTSTANDING EAL LANGUAGE RESULTS
In the Sixth Form, our international students continue to excel, achieving remarkable results in IELTS examinations. These scores enable them to gain admission to prestigious universities across the UK. Last year’s Sixth Form students attained an impressive average IELTS score of 8.25. The usual score required for top British universities is 7.0.
Farlington students have also historically performed exceptionally well in Cambridge English examinations, regularly achieving top grades, including A grades in the Cambridge First and Cambridge Advanced exams. Another highlight of the EAL department’s provision is the support offered for GCSEs and A Levels in students' home languages. Last year, students entered examinations in Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Japanese, achieving top grades across all subjects.

BOARDING HOUSE LIFE
Farlington's friendly boarding house, the 'Mansion House', offers students a cosy, home- from-home environment. Older boarders have their own space in single or double rooms, whilst younger students share dormitories. Within the boarding house, students experience a family atmosphere, comfortable communal areas, campus-wide Wi-Fi access, spacious study bedrooms, and all mod cons. Our boarders forge strong friendships and develop great social skills, independence and understanding, as well as a warmth of spirit and character that will serve them well at university and throughout their lives.
Once the busy school day is over, evenings are relaxed and fun, with a great sense of community. Our supportive staff are always on hand to help, lend a listening ear or discuss the day’s events. The Common Room has a large-screen TV on which to watch favourite programmes and DVDs, and every Friday is ‘Movie Night’ – complete with popcorn!

BOARDING HOUSE REFURBISHMENT
Following investment into our Boarding House last summer, our renovation works have now been completed. The works included the creation of single, twin, and triple rooms in place of our larger dorms, which now provide our boarders with modern decoration and furnishings. We know how much our boarders value such smaller rooms and these changes provide us with greater options to offer them, in terms of room sharing and choice.
In addition to this, we are delighted to confirm that we have created a new communal boarding kitchen on the ground floor of the Mansion House, adjacent to our large Boarders’ Common Room. This has already become the real heart of the Boarding House community, where our boarders can socialise together around shared food and fun times.

WEEKEND ACTIVITIES
Our boarders all enjoy busy school days during the week, but weekends are full of opportunities for them to be as active or relaxed as they wish! Boarding at Farlington is great fun! We are a small group, which means the boarders get to know everyone really well and friends here become like a second family. We all support each other and make sure the younger students are settling well and making new friends. There is always someone to give advice if needed, and staff are available at all times to help with any concerns.
Last term, our boarders enjoyed celebrating International Boarding Day. The theme for this year's celebration was ‘Global Unity’, and by playing some traditional games from the different countries represented in the Mansion House, it was a great way of bringing everyone together. After a fun day, the students were treated to a delicious meal by our catering team, enjoying different cuisines from around the world.

BOARDING HOUSE LIFE
At the weekend there is so much on offer: creative trips such as ceramic painting; theme park outings; visiting the theatre or cinema; active pursuits such as kayaking, go-karting climbing and abseiling; and even the occasional opportunity for some retail therapy in Horsham, Brighton and sometimes London. If students have anything in particular they would like to do at the weekend, we are of course happy to consider all (reasonable!) requests.

SPORT AT FARLINGTON
Sport is a big part of life at Farlington, and our international students enjoy all of the opportunities that are on offer. Sport is an integral part of the school timetable, but there are plenty of extra-curricular activities for the students to get involved in once the school day is over. Our boarders particularly enjoy playing badminton in our Sports Hall during the evenings and have recently enjoyed their first friendly fixtures against other local schools, even securing their first win recently, with a 12-4 final score!
Plans are in place for a new Fitness Suite to be added to our sports facilities in 2025. Once it has opened, the Fitness Suite, which will include treadmills, spinning bikes, weight machines, free-weights and cross-trainers, will be available to all students in the Senior School from September 2025. Our boarders will be able to use this new facility in the evenings and during weekends.
