James Fleming commented in a 1950s Journal issue that long-running business sessions usually meant “the election of grand chapter officers was ‘always a midnight affair.’” In the modern era of GCMs, the Fraternity utilizes the OST team to ensure the GCM daily events remain on schedule. Schedule integrity is especially critical when a paid vendor is supporting an event. For example, the Fraternity cannot keep the wait staff an hour after the Closed Banquet scheduled end time because a brother spoke beyond his Continued on page 58

sometimes influence whether the city successfully advances in our conclave city selection process. Sharing experi- ences is essential for the Divine Nine organizations’ planning committees.

Among the Divine Nine, fraternities and sororities frequently share their experiences working with city officials and convention center management. Discussion ideas and feedback between the GCMC and D9 counterparts on cities and facilities are very informal. The GCMC can call D9 counterparts directly. They discuss what cities their organizations are considering and what their organization experienced at their most recent national convention city. Feedback from another D9 orga- nization regarding a host city can
