JOURNAL NOTES 87TH GRAND CHAPTER MEETING

A Legacy of Leadership, A Future in Focus

A s we reflect on the enduring impact of the 35th Admin- istration of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., this era will be remem- bered not just for milestones—but for the movement it inspired. Under the visionary leadership of Grand Polemarch Jimmy McMikle, the 35th reignited the flame of undergraduate empowerment, redefined leadership training, and championed fraterni- ty-wide accessibility that reached every province, chapter, and brother. What set this administration apart was its belief in the capacity of under- graduate brothers—not as future leaders, but as leaders now. Through the revitalization of the Council of Junior Province Vice Polemarchs and enhanced roles for Undergraduate Grand Chapter Officers, a bold realign- ment unfolded. Brothers closest to the collegiate experience were entrusted with tools, responsibilities, and plat- forms to lead. Through onboarding programs, chapter visits, and targeted training, leadership became not merely an aspiration—but an expectation. Equally transformative was the com- mitment to connection. Grand Chapter Officers, the Executive Committee, and national committee chairs became accessible mentors, not distant figure- heads. Whether through social media or on-the-ground presence, fraternity

leadership modeled an open-door phi- losophy—one that listens, responds, and shows up. The reach of the 35th extended far beyond ceremonial halls. Kappa Men are now serving in federal, state, and local government—as legislators, advo- cates, commissioners, and mayors. In boardrooms, courtrooms, classrooms, and city councils, they are shaping pol- icies and transforming communities. Excellence in achievement is no longer abstract—it’s evident in lives touched and decisions influenced. Innovation also thrived digitally. Through curated campaigns and livestreams, the Administration’s use of social media brought our Brother- hood closer together and expanded “AS WE TURN TO THE 87TH GRAND CHAPTER MEETING IN PHOENIX, THE TORCH IS PASSED WITH PRIDE AND PRECISION. ”

our reach. Our digital presence became more vibrant, more visible, and more aligned with our values—giving broth- ers across the globe front-row access to Kappa’s evolution. No reflection would be complete with- out celebrating The Kappa Alpha Psi Journal . Under the creative direction of Aliatu Burke—supported by the striking imagery of Michael Hume, Gregory L. Williams, and Kevin Sellers, and the steadfast support of Executive Director John F. Burrell—the Journal has become a visual and narrative embodiment of Kappa’s excellence. It doesn’t just docu- ment history—it defines it. As we turn to the 87th Grand Chapter Meeting in Phoenix, the torch is passed with pride and precision. The foundation laid by the 35th empowers us to dream bolder, lead stronger, and serve deeper. In Kappa Alpha Psi, leadership is not just a moment—it is a method. Let us meet the future with open arms and ever-achieving hearts

Yours in the Bond,

Cleveland Ferguson III, Esq. Editor, The Kappa Alpha Psi Journal
