Bamboo-leaf oak is native to Central and Southern Japan, where it grows in mixed evergreen forests. It features narrow, bamboo- like leaves and produces striking new growth in vibrant red, adding seasonal color to the landscape. This adaptable species grows at a moderate rate, typically adding 1–2 feet per year, though growth can be faster in ideal sun and slower in shade. Naturally graceful in form, its size can also be artfully maintained through annual pruning when needed. Bamboo-leaf oak is notably tough, with no serious pest or disease issues, and shows excellent tolerance of heat, drought, and a wide range of soils.
