Littleleaf linden is native to much of Europe. Its heart-shaped leaves, dark green and glossy above and lighter beneath, turn vibrant yellow in fall. In late June to early July, small clusters of fragrant yellow flowers bloom, attracting bees and other pollinators. Renowned for its hardiness, littleleaf linden tolerates urban conditions, pollution, and soil pH variations making it a dependable street tree and lawn specimen. It appears in Norse mythology and its fine-grained wood is prized for carving and piano making. Cultivated since at least 760 AD, littleleaf linden is both ecologically productive and culturally meaningful.
