Persian parrotia, also known as Persian ironwood, is celebrated for its ever-changing beauty throughout the seasons. In late winter, clusters of small, deep red flowers bloom before the leaves emerge. Its green summer leaves, often edged with red, turn shades of yellow, orange, scarlet, and burgundy in autumn. The tree’s exfoliating bark peels in patches of silver, green, and reddish-brown. Its branches are known to self-graft in a process called inosculation, where touching branches fuse together over time. This creates an interwoven network of limbs producing a unique, latticed structure.
