The Norway spruce is admired for its sweeping branches, rich green needles, and long, pendant cones. Although native to Europe, it has been widely planted in the United States and is the fastest-growing species among spruces. Its dense foliage makes it perfect for privacy screens while also offering shelter and winter roosting for wildlife like songbirds and owls. The tree’s softwood is highly valued for crafting musical instruments, including violins, due to its excellent acoustic qualities. In the past, young spring shoots were used to make tea or syrup, providing a natural source of vitamin C to help prevent scurvy.
