H: 80FT W: 45FT

Jeffrey pine is well suited to challenging, infertile soils. It tolerates both drought and cold, thriving even in areas with short growing seasons. This pine has long, bluish needles that create a full, bushy canopy. Its bark is initially silvery and matures to a reddish- brown with a distinctive scent reminiscent of vanilla and citrus. It provides shelter and food for an abundance of native wildlife. Often mistaken for its look-alike, the ponderosa pine ( P. ponderosa ), Jeffrey pine can be identified by its cones, which have recurved umbos and are not prickly to the touch, earning it the mnemonic “gentle Jeffrey” versus “prickly ponderosa.”
